Reserves 5-1 Stenhousemuir

RANGERS reserves eased to a 5-1 win over Stenhousemuir at Auchenhowie tonight as they continued their good form in the league campaign.

 

 

Doubles from Kal Naismith and Calum Gallagher and a strike from Tom Walsh ensured the home side secured three points.

 

Naismith got the home side off to a flying start when he opened the scoring with barely seconds on the clock.

 

He found himself in acres of space on the edge of the area and rifled a fine effort high in to the top corner.

 

The visitors almost hit back instantly when the crossbar came to Blair Currieâ??s rescue after a looping header had the keeper beaten.

 

That was the best Stenny could muster in the opening half hour and Rangers might have been further ahead but for some poor decision making in the final third.

 

Luck played its part too with Darren Ramsay unfortunate with the bounce when Naismith headed down Matty Clarkeâ??s cross from the left.

 

Francesco Stella then almost added to the scoring twice, with two decent runs that were thwarted by the keeper and a wayward finish that sailed over the bar.

 

Naismith showed more composure just before the half hour mark when he steered a fine left footed effort just inside the post low to the keeperâ??s right.

 

The two goal lead didnâ??t last however and Stuart Love pegged the home side back when he pounced on some indecisive defending to fire home from inside the Rangers area.

 

Stella had the opportunity to restore the lead five minutes later as he was sent clear, but his poked effort rolled wide of the upright.

 

The Australian was involved in the build-up to the third however as he released Clarke on the left and the fullback picked out Gallagher in the middle for a simple finish to a lovely move.

 

A half time pep talk for the visitors saw them emerge a little more energetically and with a spate of changes for the home side Stenny enjoyed a spell of relative comfort.

 

However it was Dean Shaw in the visitorsâ?? goal that made the biggest impression as a string of fine saves ensured the score was kept down until late in the game.

 

He denied Tom Walsh and substitute Jamie Burrows when both players might have felt they should have found the net from close range.

 

So Shaw would have been disappointed with Walshâ??s strike that did find the back of the net with just five minutes remaining.

 

The midfielderâ??s effort was well struck but the keeper might have held it in different weather conditions rather than allow it to slip through his grasp and roll in to make it 4-1.

 

Gallagher then added a fifth in injury time as he headed home from Stuart Urquhartâ??s cross to give the scoreline a look that better reflected the Light Bluesâ?? domination of possession.
