SPL in £100m tax â??dodgeâ?

Recommended Posts

Morning my erstwhile friend.

No, I have made the point in the article that virtually no (perhaps indeed zero) corporation tax has been paid on this money, even by the clubs. They have tax losses that mop up this 'profit' and leave no tax paid.

I'm not sure I would welcome more money going out of our game while the government look at more double taxing.

I recently paid vat on the labour cost of a car repair. the person carrying out the labour then paid income tax.

quite a racket.

Indeed, the person also paid NI as well as tax, and the company paid NI too as well as VAT. The company also paid rates on the garage and, if there is any profit left after all that, will pay corporation tax as well.

(But on your point, the clubs wouldn't pay tax on the dividends they would receive under that scenario, so there wouldn't be double taxation.)

I assume the English Premier League don't pay corporation tax currently, or indeed the SFL?

I mean it's an interesting point and worth raising, but if it is how 'leagues' are commercially set-up I'm not sure it takes us much further forward.

but the revenue would be reduced which is bad. bringing down the spl only to find revenues reduced under the new authority wouldn't be worth it.

... and the answer is to allow each club to negotiate their own commercial contracts, so it works all ways for Rangers!

That's a bit like saying all MPs claimed ridiculous things on their expenses, that's the way things were done, so it's okay. And we know how that turned out.

Interesting stuff Boss.

I've been trying to get my head around it, but it's not easy.

On one hand it seems to be sort of set up like a corporate umbrella company/group, but it doesn't trade like an average umbrella company or group of companies.

I wonder what the situation would be if 12 separate companies trading in a non-sport related industry did the same thing? Are there any examples of that?
