Breaking news: BTC - Rangers appeal successful

Recommended Posts

The SPL's investigation is about side letters/contract being issued & not disclosed to the relevant bodies. The outcome of the BTC has no connection. However, it will cast a fair amount of doubt over the SPL's claims. If Rangers were guilt of mishandling the EBTs, logic would dictated that they could have handled the extra payment disclosures wrongly as well. However, the tribunal appears to confirm that the EBT were handled correctly, so logic could dictate that we handled everything else correctly....

That's what I was thinking dude. Cheers

I'm not sure they will. The oldco has no assets so no debt is recoverable anyway and the cost of this must run in to the extreme.

Which brings us back to the original problem. If Murray had not sold to Whyte and stuck it out, HMRC had promised to appeal and appeal again. That would have made the club impossible to run. They basically shafted us. Whyte may have stabbed us, robbed us and left us for dead but it's HMRC that put us defenseless in a dark alley in the roughest part of the ghetto.

What they did should be illegal. It doesn't really change anything due to their agenda to make an example of us.

I agree with this completely. I don't absolve Murray/Whyte but immediately this arose, so many rose against us assuming guilt. We didn't stand a chance at survival.

A spokesperson for Sir David Murray, owner of the club through the period in question, said: “We are satisfied that the Tax Tribunal has now published its widely awaited decision and note the contents thereof.

"We are pleased with the judgement which leaves minimal tax liability and overwhelmingly supports the views collectively and consistently held by our advisers, legal counsel and MIH itself.

"This has been an exceptionally long, difficult and expensive process involving not just the Tax Tribunal but also significant efforts to resolve the matter with senior HMRC officials on a commercially sensible basis for all parties. We will therefore review the detailed content of the decision with our advisers and legal counsel to ascertain what action, if any, is now required by MIH.

"While MIH has at all times respected the privacy of the Tax Tribunal proceedings, a substantial quantity of confidential information relating to the case has become available for public consumption stimulating considerable discussion and often ill-informed debate. This has been wholly inappropriate and outwith the fundamental principles of natural justice.

"We therefore formally request that the relevant authorities investigate how these sensitive details have been released so widely. We have instructed our lawyers to retrospectively review online and printed publications relating to the case to identify whether legal redress is either appropriate or necessary."

hopefully RTC blogger will be shiting himself now.

So, what happens now? The tribunal have given the SPL/SFA whatever investigation an opening by saying Rangers DID conceal these loans, thereby breaking the rules. However, it also says only SOME players affected so how would they do this?

Surely also title stripping is top end of powers? We've been found not guilty and maybe a breach yes but if it's not every player then how can they strip club/player titles?

This shall be interesting.

On kerryfail they are quite happy apparently. However, they fail to understand, we're having fun, we're debt free, we'll keep our titles, we're stronger than ever and we don't have to fucking play them :D

There is going to be two ways that reporters could go - they may step up their propaganda against us in order to prove they were right to damn us so much, or they may soften their approach to writing about us as they realise their position was originally far too aggressive.

I think I know what one it will be!
