SIR DAVID MURRAY TAKES LEGAL ACTION OVER TAX LEAKS

(Issued on behalf of Levy & McRae Solicitors and Notaries Public)

Professor Peter Watson of Levy & McRae has confirmed that he has been instructed by Sir David Murray to submit a complaint to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service regarding the publication of information relating to his tax affairs.

Professor Watson said: â??Sir David regards such information as private and confidential and the publication of such information as unlawful. He has asked that this matter is investigated and that anyone found guilty of breaching the law is the subject of prosecution.â?

as a side note weren't levy and McRae guilty of leaking documents themselves about brains case.

Was it not a secretary from Balfour & Manson

The leaked document is a draft summons written by lawyer Alfred Tyler of Edinburgh firm Balfour & Manson and includes handwritten marks.

Anyway hopefully Mr Black v HMRC turns into something tasty!

The can of worms may well have been opened now. Good.

RTC, HMRC staff, BBC staff and a number of others will not be sitting enjoying what may be about to unfold. Their joy may not be long-lasting....

Why wait until after the appeal verdict? It is illegal regardless of the outcome surely?

Does it make a big difference ? Timing doesnt mean he wasnt going to bring his case to court. He may just have preferred to see the outcome first.

You are correct obviously, it IS illegal regardless of the outcome of the case. Maybe he was bringing the case regardless of outcome but he just wanted to see the outcome first.

Tom English Webchat about Rangers today

[Comment From Chris C Chris C : ]

Should there not be more condemnation of Rangers in the media for pursuing this aggressive tax avoidance scheme, even if it was technically legal? There seems to be a celebratory tone from Rangers supporters which doesn't seem warranted in this economic climate.

12:21 Chris, I can't and won't speak for other elements of the media. We're not one collective. We're all different. But I know what you're saying. This was aggressive tax avoidance and there is a moral element to this. When I heard what the likes of Jimmy Carr was doing with his tax I lost a lot of respect for him. Same with Rangers. Let's be clear: It was legal, but...

Tom do you like other journalists think that Rangers supporters should "just move on"? and why should we when other clubs, club officials, fans and journalists labelled us cheats?

Tuesday November 27, 2012 12:21 john

12:23 No. If - and it remains a big if - HMRC leaked documents then Rangers fans - in fact, everybody - has a right to know about it. I'm still very, very wary of buying into the notion that it must have been HMRC that leaked information. I'm not sure that it's true, but couldn't say it for a fact

Do you think it is right the media calling this a Rangers victory considering the amount of money creditors are due. Also in the investigation it was revealed that Dr Poon commandeered over half the report with some very damning comments.

12:25 It is a victory, no question. Rangers have been accused of financial doping and historic levels of cheating in the biggest sporting scandal the country has ever seen. A respected panel rejected that. Having said that, the moralising from Rangers is sometimes laughable. This remains the club that torched millions of pounds worth of debt under Craig Whyte, including £15m due to the taxman.

12:25 [Comment From Denny Denny : ]

Hi Tom, If the EBTs were indeed operated at arms length from Ranger/Murray group, do they constitute payments from a 3rd party in your opinion?

Tuesday November 27, 2012 12:25 Denny

12:26 Mure and Rae said yes, Denny. That's all that matters. Legally, the answer is yes

12:26 [Comment From James James : ]

Do you think a tax avoidance vehicle which amounted to circa 2 million per annum deserved such high profile when the likes of Vodaphone write of hundreds of millions?

Tuesday November 27, 2012 12:26 James

12:26 In a word, yes
