Russians break for the border

Recommended Posts

[h=3]A JOINT Russian and Ukrainian League could start as early as next year.[/h]The move could have far-reaching consequences for Rangers, whose boss Charles Green is desperate to get the club into a cross-border league.

Russian gas giant Gazprom â?? a Champions League sponsor and owner of Zenit St Petersburg â?? is determined to bring the top clubs in Russia and Ukraine together in a new league called the United Championship.

And they are confident they can persuade UEFA to give them the go-ahead as early as next autumn. Gazprom Chief Executive Alexei Miller said: â??Of course the approval of UEFA is required.

â??We can already say with confidence there will be an interesting discussion.

â??This is because of the requirements imposed by UEFAâ??s financial fair play rules. I am sure if the United Championship is created, this requirement will be fully conformed to.

â??We think it is realistic to hold the championship from the autumn of 2014.â?

Eventually, the league would include teams from all former Soviet countries and have an astonishing prize fund of £800million.

The only possible option at the moment would be for us to be invited into the new Beneliga if it gets off the ground.

Scottish football is finished. There's no money in it as WS warned before he left Rangers a couple of years ago. We must endeavour to get out of Scottish football.

FIFA and UEFA forever can't stop progress, not to mention stopping the European laws on free trade and unfettered movement of work and business. It's only a matter of time before teams will be allowed to play where they want, which is why i see a Super Euro Premiership and smaller European regional leagues like the Beneliga or North Sea (German Sea) teams league. Inviting teams from Nothern France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Scotland and England

At the end of the day, if Gazprom and Co. decide to pull this off, they simply will. FIFA and UEFA can try to cause them some bother (ban the FAs, ban players in that league and whatnot), but they do not pay the players' wages, nor will they be able to stay above the law.

Likewise with European football on the whole. You see the big guns spending like there is no tomorrow while carrying debts of 100 of million pounds along. Platini may want his fair play stuff, but if the big guns disagree, they can pull away and start their own set up ... and TV and media and money will follow them, not UEFA. If Sky decides that Rangers and the Hooped Horrors should play in the Premiership, a British Premiership, they can do this too. Hand out a few more million (to those who may lose out) and off they go.

If an Eastern European League is formed, surely the rest of the continent would have to follow suit to keep up? We should see a Western European league shortly after that. (Or maybe Western and Central).

That would be extremely good news for any Rangers share-holders...
