Shame on you Tom English

Over here in Germany there is the so-called Presserat, i.e. "Press Council". If journalists do any of the above and bring people or institutions name into dirsrepute (amongst other things), the Presserat will act and these journos as well as the media outlets who pay them face serious repercussions and may even lose their licences. I would assume that something similar is out there in Britain too, one just needs to find and utilize it.

That's because you assume that the UK is a modern, social democracy - which is kinda sweet.

The press in the UK serve the interests of those who employ them; they have zero social conscience and even less social responsibility. There is no political will or need to regulate the press - because a "free" press is good or those who pay for it.

For those of us who get it 'free', it is very expensive indeed.

Serious question, what do you think that would achieve?

The media outlets have a right for the information, press freedom et al. So they may request that we co-operate under the terms of the SFL, SFA, SPFL etc.. That does not mean that certain individuals have to gain access to the club. If you declare a number of these press people to be persona-non-grata of the club, the media outlet will be required to a) send someone else and b) ask why someone is not allowed access. At least you would hope they do. In any case, by making it public that this or that person is not welcome at Ibrox (etc.), that person will gather unwanted attention to the publication/media outlet. Some wear it as bagde of glory, others will see that this reporter will either change his ways or will change his employer. Since most of the football reporters in Scotland come from a small pool of comparatively "highly paid" people, I would assume that given the chance, the media outlet may send some (underpaid) newbie to us instead ... and if said chap/lass does her job admirably, why not punt the idiot who got himself into our bad-books for good?

Of course, naming and shaming the Rangers haters and biased folk openly will gave a great satisfaction to the support as well. We have been subjected to some serious dross and bile for more than a year now and some pay-back is well overdue.

NB: Denying these idiots entry to Ibrox will free up space for the local chaps from the SPFL 3, who, I would assume, will gladly take up the allocation made available. Perhaps bringing the family along too? :cool6:

If only life was so simple. James Traynor was once banned from Ibrox, how'd it affect his career?

Banning journalists doesn't work. Alex Ferguson refused to speak to the entire BBC for years, what difference did that make to them? We're currently not speaking to BBC Scotland, what affect is that having, who actually loses out in that?

Banning someone like Tom English from Ibrox will do very little to his career. It will prevent him from attending half of our matches in person but it doesn't stop him writing about them or writing about Rangers.

If people don't like what Tom English writes then don't read it, ever. If no one reads his stuff no one will pay him to write it, it's simple economics.

But the piece in question in this thread was replied to in an excellent way by one of the Rangers Standard guys, that was a far better response than banning him.

Journalists shouldn't be banned in a free society. If you dislike what someone writes then challenge them on it, if that doesn't work then don't read them, don't buy their paper or listen to their show.

Understand that writing an article on Rangers almost guarantees readers, whether the journalist is banned or not. We hold the power here, not them.

If a so-called journalist writes something about Rangers who is blatantly not true then the CEO should take legal action against the so-called journalists and his/her newspaper. Spiers effectively called Rangers cheats over the BTC yet no action was taken. Why ?

I don't know, ask the CEO of Rangers.

all due respect mate, that's an argument reducto ad absurdum - nobody is talking about stopping free speech; the question is whether we should continue to allow people access to the club whose seeming sole purpose is to piss on us once they are through the doors. They can write what they want from the comfort of their offices, but are you really saying that we should continue to give free access to someone like Spiers who continues to publish defamatory lies which only serve to damage the club? I wouldn't ban English (yet) because I don't think his stuff is malevolent in the way that Spiers' is - but he sure as hell has to be held to account by the club when he writes stuff that is demonstrably wrong.

We have to let these people know that there is a price for overstepping the line.

Ah hand wringers and surrender monkeys where would we be without them, in a better place and stronger position that's where, quiet dignity has a lot to answer for and the sooner the better.
