RICHARD Gough, Michael Mols, Marco Negri, Alex Rae and Bobby Russell have all shown their support for the march that will retrace the steps of the Gallant Pioneers from their previous home in Kinning Park to Ibrox.

RANGERS stars yesterday joined forces to lend their support to tomorrow’s Sons of Struth march to Ibrox.

Nine-in-a-row legend Richard Gough, Michael Mols, Marco Negri, Alex Rae and Bobby Russell all backed the protest march that will retrace the steps of the Gallant Pioneers from their previous home in Kinning Park to the current one.

John Brown joined Sons of Struth chief Craig Houston yesterday to promote the walk as the fans’ group continue to seek legal assurances over the club’s playing headquarters and Murray Park training base.

Former skipper Gough spoke out yesterday and said: “Ibrox Stadium is the spiritual home of our great club but also to many thousands of fans. The fans should march to safeguard our home and quite rightly ask for legal assurances from the board.

“Their words cannot be trusted as has been proved in recent months.

“I hope the fans will turn out in large numbers and obtain these assurances from their actions.”

Mols, another fans’ favourite, said: “Ibrox is our history, Ibrox is our present. March to Ibrox on the 19th to protect Ibrox for our future.”

Negri said: “Ibrox Stadium is an icon for Rangers players and especially Rangers fans. Keep fighting for Blues’ home and never give up. I am with you.”

Rae said: “I believe in what you are trying to achieve with the march and hope you are successful. The board can easily grant what fans are asking for.”

Russell said: “ I hope everything goes to plan as I want what is best for my team.”

Houston, who will lead the journey to Ibrox, insisted this a fight the current Rangers board won’t win.

He said: “We want the board to issue legal assurances that they won’t raise capital by selling off Ibrox.

“It is superb to have former players backing us. It is inspiring that guys you have sat and worshipped from the stands for decades are endorsing something you are doing as a fan.

“The passion the fans have cannot be matched by any directors, especially those who don’t have any passion for the club. We will win this battle.

“Whether it’s tomorrow, a month, a year, it doesn’t matter. We will still be here and doing what’s best for the club.”

While I am generally supportive of the cause, I dont see this as being very successful. A march to Ibrox in the middle of pre-season when nobody is there might generate a few headlines, but it also has the ability to be a damp squib if they dont get the numbers.

In any event it won't put the slightest bit of pressure onto the board/shareholders to deviate from their current course (towards the rocks!), as they quite frankly dont gets a rats arse about the feelings of the fans that support this club. The only way to get rid of these shareholders is to buy them out. I am certain there is no other way this is going to end well for us.

Anyway, good luck to those involved. Anyone want to hazard a guess at the number attending. Would 1000 be a good turnout?

Late edit: I am somewhat surprised to see them getting ex-players to back it and get some media exposure today. that should boost the numbers.

I'm like you TB, I don't really see the point to be honest but SoS are certainly getting good support and plenty indication of reasonable attendance.

I think if they managed 500-1000 people they'd be doing very well all things considered. Unfortunately, I don't see this having much affect either way though you may have heard more than me about whether season ticket numbers continue to be a cause for concern at the club?
