D-day is set for Rangers' Telfer fee

Recommended Posts

THE SPFL have set a date of December 9 for Charlie Telfer's transfer tribunal.

The midfielder moved from Rangers to Dundee United in the summer and the Light Blues are due training compensation.

Rangers have so far rejected United's offers for Telfer so an independent panel will now decide the fee next month.

Ok the same club stuff is beside the point as we obviously are.

However I think Dundee have a point - which is that the current operators of the club only trained him for two years in terms of costs.

I think we should let sleeping dogs lie and accept the settlement.

Why ?

If we are considered the same Club then RANGERS are due full and proper compensation. The fact that it is someone else that is now running the club doesn't negate the fact that RANGERS trained him. Proper compensation is due.

Even if we take Utd's defence as accurate - oldco isn't liquidated yet - therefore Utd should be paying oldco transfer compensation too (because that would be the entity that trained Telfer) - I would be disappointed in BDO if Utd win this tribunal on that defence and BDO then don't ask for the balance of the training compensation.

Surely that would have been taken account of in the amount that the "current operators" paid for the club and therefore they are due the full amount?

We are either the same club or we aren't.

Compensation Rules are clear but it is nowhere near 200k

Looking at the SPFL rules it would appear the 'basic' development fee is as follows:

£5k per year from age 11-14 when previous club was in top league

£3k per year from age 12-14 when previous club was in lower leagues

£10k per year from age 15-19 when previous club was in top league

£6k per year for age 15 year when previous club was in lower leagues

£9k per year from age 16-19 when previous club was in lower leagues

Its fairly straight forward to roughly calculate the figure we are due

It goes to a tribunal if one of the two parties dispute the statutory figure, then both clubs put forward thier case justifying their figure.

If were a cross border transfer the compensation is a good bit higher, so if he had gone south its around €320k

The real culprits here is whoever "forgot" about his contract and the managment/coaching staff who refused to promote any young players one the leage was won last season.

For the Manager to come out and say he had to play an injured Jon Daly because he had nobody else is embarassing.

He could have played a young striker or even Jig upfront and one of the many young centre backs we have.

But Ally had to get his unbeaten season even if it did finish with a draw against what was basically a Dunfermline youth team.

Better get used to it could be another couple this summer.

In August & September of 2012 Chuck Green made a big point of repeatedly harping on about having to pay oldco football debts.

The SFA & SPL were adamant that we shouldn't be allowed to avoid paying them, so it needs to be a 2-way street.
