Australian Open: Andy Murray beats Nick Kyrgios in last eight

Recommended Posts

Britain's Andy Murray ended the run of home favourite Nick Kyrgios with a brilliant display to reach the Australian Open semi-finals.

Murray, 27, outsmarted the 19-year-old to win 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 and set up a clash with Tomas Berdych on Thursday.

Kyrgios threatened a comeback in the second set tie-break but two superb lobs helped the Scot to a crucial lead.

The sixth seed is through to his fifth Australian Open and 15th Grand Slam semi-final. Scot to play Berdych, conqueror of Nadal.

Murray is the best British tennis player ever. He has been very unlucky to have not one, but three contemporaries who are slightly better. In another era Murray would have won many more championships.

The thing is, I don't really like the chap and I don't like BBC Scotland sending second rate reporters who couldn't tell a foot fault from a fandango to the ends of the earth to cover his matches when the real BBC have specialist tennis reporters on site.

I didn't like Henman either. In fact to tell the truth I don't like tennis as a spectator sport.

Roger Taylor seemed a decent enough cove. Made a semi final at Wimbledon without much of a fuss being made about it.
