Union of Fans Statement RE: Falkirk match

Recommended Posts

"The Union of Fans would like to urge supporters to remember that their behaviour at the game on Friday night will once again be under intense scrutiny.

We are now operating in an environment where, due to false accusations made by a publicity seeking ex footballer, there is heightened focus on our fans. Certain people are looking for an excuse to make an example of Rangers. The simple message to our fans is do not give them the opportunity.

The Rangers fans’ have been consistently excellent over the past few years and have attracted much deserved praise. It remains the case however that any slip will be highlighted whilst behaviour by fans of other clubs is largely ignored. Acts of defiance do not work. They do not shine the spotlight on the actions of others but merely turn it back on our fans. We are in a position of weakness and our club is an easy target. That will not always be the case.

A tiny section of fans have let the club down recently by reverting to damaging behaviour which is not only illegal but tarnishes the club. Please think of Rangers ahead of anything else on Friday night. Help us to challenge attempts to smear the club by giving those who seek to damage us no ammunition. This will ensure, post EGM, that we can address the misinformation and constant sniping by certain individuals in the media who only seem to see fault in our club, whilst ignoring the open defiance of the rules by other clubs."

Buba3d, I do not see what is amusing about the statement..... whilst the club can be punitively punished or fans convicted of a criminal offence for singing such songs, it is worthwhile making such a statement.

There is a democratic process through which such laws can be challenged.... fight it through due process rather than have the clubs name tarnished or punitively punished by the likes of UEFA.

Acts of defiance do not work that and the fact he goes on about "doing damage to the club" whats he and his cohorts been doing since they didn't like the folk on the board? calling for boycotts, no more money for the club, whipping the fans into a bad tempered frenzy etc etc, yet he's worried about the implications because some fan behavior issues.

Who is the "he" you refer to? This statement is from the Union of Fans and I can't see here that it is signed by an individual or "he".

Who exactly are you raging at here mate?

Whether it was a prepared statement from a committee or not, I would assume he means the actual author.

The aim of the boycotts and protests were to put pressure on a board who are unfit to run our club. It looks like it may well have worked so, far from damaging the club, these acts have brought about the prospect of a much brighter future. Do you think, if we'd all compliantly bought merchandise from SD (supporting a deal which damages the club) and obediently purchased match tickets (providing more dosh for the board to squander and pilfer) we'd be in a better place? I'd argue it's truer to say that the board have been defying the will of the fans (the true spirit of the club) these past few years, rather than say we've been defying them. We reject them, we don't defy them - they're supposed to be there to do a job for us.

And with regards to the singing - how will airing songs which we all know could result in the club being sanctioned help matters? Do you think defying the authorities' ruling on this matter will in any way put pressure on them to change it?
