Chris Graham Twitter problem

Recommended Posts

Faux outrage and it should be condemned as such.

As for that picture, given what Boko-haram and the IS are doing to the world while the Islamic world they essentially come from looks on, a certain perspective needs to put on this. Chris replies to a Muslim preacher who was - according to reports - indirectly involved with the murder of Lee Bigby in the streets of London. In the aftermath of Paris, where another misguided Islamist ran amok, this twitter spat happened. In this country, you can't go about with a club and hammer your ideas and religion into someone else, so Chris took the "next best weapon", Charlie Hebdo's weapon - freedom of speech and a cynic picture.

why will he need to go?

Because it will be seen, rightly, as offensive to every Muslim Rangers supporter; because it will seen, rightly, as casually derogatory to ward homosexual Rangers supporters; because it could conceivably have dire security implications for the stadium; and because it is conduct unbefitting the office.

Although that last seems to have been devalued to the nth degree anyway.

For want of a better expression - utter nonsense !!!!

Why should he need to go... it was clearly done with the intentions of showing soladarity for those murdered in Paris and that terrorism / fascism will not silence the people's right to express themselves in a fair-minded manner.

To view it as Islamophobia is to show a basic lack of understanding around the tragic events of Paris and the aftermath.

Chris Graham should stand firm on this. In the long run it will be good for the club. In the short term, I can see some elements of the bigoted press trying to muddy this with sectariansm .....

You mean now, 2 months after the story "broke" and many people did and said and published many things on these matters, i.e. cold blooded murder, hate priests, Charlie Hebdo, Mohammed pictures and the like? Something done by a private person. If the board goes with this, it would neatly follow in the footsteps of Donald Findlay, Hugh Dallas and Co. ... and once more initiated by the same people. People who themselves go unchallenged time and again. Thanks, but no thanks!

As for the papers ... this is a story today, and perhaps for a week. Then another story will take over. As per usual. If the papers drag this on, we should call them out on their own hypocracy.

Sidenote, the papers will laugh at us, the board and Graham should he be told to go. It is in their nature.

Fair enough, I'm wrong. Tweeting such an image would not, in fact, offend any Muslims; nor is the default use of homosexuality to 'make it worse' (why not hetero sex?) likely to worry the LGBT community; Islamic extremists have no record of attacking those they perceive as having blasphemed; and our directors have no duty to behave in a manner suitable to represent our fan base. Now I understand all that I see why he's entirely suitable.
