SIX new paintings have been hung at the top of the Marble Staircase to honour important figures in Rangers history.

They were painted by artist Helen Runciman, who has produced a wealth of work for the club, including the bust of Sandy Jardine that was unveiled last month.

Legendary managers Bill Struth, Jock Wallace and Walter Smith are depicted in the new paintings, which now sit proudly around the upper landing.

Bill Struth is the first painting you see as you come up the stairway – he managed the club for 34-years and won 18 League Titles, 10 Scottish Cups, and two League Cups and he was the first manager in Scotland to win a treble in 1948-49 season.

At the other side of the Blue Room doorway is a framed copy of the Walter Smith painting - the original was purchased by the players as a gift to Walter.

He guided the club to 10 League Titles, five Scottish Cups and six League Cups; he was also the fourth Rangers manager to win a Domestic treble in the 1992-93 season.

The Gallant Pioneers, the new Pioneers and the club’s first Captain Tom Vallance are also honoured in the brilliant brushworks which will be seen by anyone who climbs the famous stairway.

The new framed painting titled the New Pioneers depicts Ally McCoist, Lee McCulloch, Lee Wallace, and Neil Alexander in a mirror image of the Gallant Pioneers, Moses McNeil, Peter McNeil, William McBeath and Peter Campbell.

And another framed canvas reproduction of Sandy Jardine now takes pride of place behind the Argyle House reception.

Sandy played 779 games scoring 91 goals in the process over a span of 18 years and went on to become figurehead of the Rangers support during recent years.

That's ridiculous imo.

"New pioneers" ffs none could come into that category.

One can only assume that the "New Pioneers" depicted is a reference to those who stuck by the club/fans and didn't jump ship when the great and good of Scottish football were twisting the knife in our backs.

I'm happy for that to be acknowledged.

The fact they haven't been particularly impressive in their given footballing roles at Rangers since is disappointing.

Can't agree with that. While I hold no malice towards any of them at least 2 of them have contributed to our footballing problems. What should have been a fresh start has set us back years and will take a long time to rectify.
