Club Statement RE: BBC Bans

Recommended Posts

What an embarassing comedown for the BBC. To have to give assurances to, and show respect to, a club they once treated as just so much flotsam.

Rangers have demanded respect and limits from a national broadcaster in full view of the public, and they have complied.

Scrote appears to have been made very puny and irrelevant in comparison.

Well played, board.

FF take on what has transpired, hope it's accurate.

"BBC Scotland climb down in media struggle with Rangers

BBC Scotland have accepted Rangers charges of bias which led to their chief football reporter Chris McLaughlin having his press credential withdrawn.

In an extraordinary admission they have promised ‘to do better’ with regard to bias in future coverage of the club. In doing so they have fully accepted that club’s assertions regarding unbalanced coverage.

The BBC have been brought to heel in a remarkably short period of time and the current Board and their advisors should be congratulated on such pursuing the media with such vigour. It’s a warning shot other media outlets peddling an anti-Rangers agenda would do well to note."

The club issued a short statement here - http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/club-n...club-statement

Sorry but it is not a 'comedown' by the Beeb at all, at least certainly not in public:

"A BBC Scotland source said: "It is back to normal business as of this afternoon. We just said that we report fairly and accurately – both past and future.""

They are saying they have never done anything wrong. We are re-granting full privileges and access to the loathsome, Rangers' hating Mclaughlin (he won't change, it's in his DNA and indoctrination to hate us) and the same organisation that attacks us will merely step lightly for a few weeks and then, at the first opportunity, come down on us like a ton of bricks with renewed determination.

This is a bitter bitter man we are talking about. This could come back to haunt us.

I doubt it. The Club basically says it is last chance saloon. The Club gave the BBC just enough rope on this one when they said "the Club have been given assurances...." - which means the first time there is any stupidity from McLaughlin the Club will be able to initiate the ban again and point to the broken assurances given by the BBC

Each side has to report this interaction in a way that allows them to retire with a bit of dignity. Fair enough.

Do you honestly think that what was reported by the discredited BBC is what they actually said to Rangers' board?

This organization had to report on our last games while watching a BT or SkyTV broadcast. That says a lot about their ability and credibility as a national broadcaster.

The BBC self-imposed their boycott of staff reporting from Ibrox. They could not be seen to be ending that boycott without getting Rangers to restore scrote's status.

Do you think that in that meeting with our board they dictated the agenda or do you think they were asking for a return to normalcy having conceded that their man was in the wrong?

The board have seized the initiative and have put our detractors on notice. Normal boundaries of criticism and opinion have been set, but push those boundaries at your own peril.
