Wife of murdered ex-Rangers star Arnold Peralta reveals anguish in moving Christmas message to her slain husband

VANESSA opened her heart on social media after Peralta's violent death earlier this month and said their four-month-old daughter Camila "is going to be so proud of the daddy God gave her".

THE wife of slain ex-Rangers star Arnold Peralta has spoken of her despair at having to spend Christmas without him.

 

Vanessa Oliva, mum to their four-month-old daughter Camila, opened her heart on her Instagram account where she described the footballer as “the love of my life” after he was gunned down on December 10.

 

She said in a post alongside a photo of her wrapping her arms round her husband and kissing him on the cheek: “I look at Heaven with tears in my eyes.

 

“Who was going to imagine this day without you?

 

“I miss you so much. Things will never be the same without you.

 

“You left your mark and it will never be erased. We were so happy and we were going to spend Christmas in Honduras with family and with our baby daughter.

 

“God Bless. Happy Christmas my love.”

 

 

 

In another post hours earlier alongside a picture of the couple cuddling and kissing on a hotel sunbed, she wrote: “Don’t say goodbye, just see you soon, God decided that I’m better off in Heaven and I had to go to a place where I’m not going to suffer.

 

“We miss you here my love. It’s more difficult being here without you, without your craziness and your laughter.

 

“I remember the day of this photo as if it were yesterday, with our pina colada in that hotel lobby, that intense conversation we had when I managed to get you talking.

 

“I remember we were in different rooms and you went to knock on my door pretending to be room service and I smothered you in kisses.

 

“Although it was a work trip for you and not a holiday you always enjoyed them because you loved what you did.

 

“That’s how I’m going to remember you always. Camila is going to be proud of the daddy God gave her and some day we’ll be reunited again.

 

“You left a great hole that nobody is ever going to fill. You were a super special person until the last day of life that God gave you.”

 

 

Police are still hunting Peralta’s killers , including the gunman who shot him dead at a shopping centre in the Honduran port city of La Ceiba as he bought Christmas presents with his wife and the accomplice who helped him escape on a motorbike.

 

Detectives have already said the 26-year-old was murdered over personal problems but have declined to say what they were.

 

Police chief Jorge Alberto Rodriguez Montoya hinted last week they were hunting a “mastermind” behind the shooting.

 

He said: “We all know this crime occurred because of a personal problem but the police teams involved are working on solving this case.

 

“There is technical and witness evidence to enable us to capture the individuals who committed this terrible crime.

 

“These people are under surveillance. Obviously there was one gunman but there were two people involved in the attack and we are investigating whether there are others linked to this incident so they can be captured.”

 

 

 

Honduras’ Justice Minister Julian Pacheco claimed in the run-up to Christmas the investigation into Arnold Peralta’s murder was “80 per cent advanced.”

 

He said: “We have identified people who could have participated and in the next few hours there will be important developments in this case.

 

“It’s a case we’re going to resolve within a few days.”

 

Asked at a press conference what was behind the murder, he said: “I don’t want to reveal the reasons but we have very important leads that can lead us to the authors and then we will explain the reasons why this young man died in this criminal act.”

 

Arnold played 25 times for Rangers between 2013 and 2015.

 

The club announced in January that the defensive midfielder’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent.

 

He returned to play for Honduran side Olimpia after an unsuccessful trial with FC Shakhter Karagandy of Kazakhstan.

 

Five police teams have been working on catching Arnold's killers.

 

They have been pouring over hours of CCTV footage taken from cameras inside the shopping centre car park as well as streets near the crime scene.

 

Officers have also been sifting through the footballer's mobile phone for clues.

 

Initial reports said detectives were focusing on two theories - a family dispute and and the theory he had refused to cooperate with criminals trying to extort money from him.

 

Detectives subsequently confirmed local reports about a third line of inquiry based on the footballer's personal problems that “out of respect for his family” were not revealed.

The wreath is a bit the worse for wear now but I attached a copy of Craig's note of condolence, set it up again;

 

and secured it to the rail with a couple of the scarves that were there.

 

It may last another few days.

THE widow of murdered ex-Rangers star Arnold Peralta is haunted by the sight of his bullet-riddled body, she revealed.

 

Vanessa Oliva, 27, and their baby girl Camila were out shopping with Peralta, 26, when he was floored by 18 shots from a mystery hitman.

 

She said: “The hardest thing I have faced is to see is body.

 

“I cannot erase those images, what happened in those mo- ments — I will never forget.

Vanessa shared her grief before a match in Peralta’s honour at La Ceiba, Honduras, where he was gunned down in a mall car park in early December.

 

She was at Monday’s game with his mother Celina Sosa, who revealed she has no desire to find out who killed him.

 

Celina said: “I am so sad, I don’t care anymore. I am sure God will find justice.”

 

But she added: “I demand the police investigate the killing — it is nearly a month and we are no further forward with information. It cannot go unpunished.”

Director of amateur Club Deportivo Murcia admitted that Arnold Peralta donated to the entire first team Rangers’ jerseys for the players.

 

He said: “Arnold played for the first time football in our club as a little boy. He remembered his origins as a player. He donated Rangers jerseys to all the players.

 

“We played with the Rangers jersey in all our league games”.

SLAIN footie star Arnold Peralta’s mum last night claimed her son might still be alive today if he had not been sent off while playing for Rangers.

 

Grieving Celina Peralta said the incident led to him losing his starting spot at Ibrox and choosing to return to crime-ridden Honduras — where he was gunned down a year later.

 

She said: “I am sure if Arnold was never shown that red card he’d have played more often at Rangers and would have stayed in Scotland.

 

“I knew he was safe there. Returning to Honduras was a massive mistake. I feared a kidnapping or assassination. Now it is too late.”

 

Referee Bobby Madden expelled Peralta in the first half of a League One fixture at Stenhousemuir in January 2014 for a high tackle on the home team’s Eddie Malone.

 

Although Gers won the match 2-0 his lack of discipline dented Peralta’s relationship with then Ibrox manager Ally McCoist.

 

And after only a handful of appearances over the next 12 months he decided to move back to his homeland in February 2015 and sign for local side Olimpia.

 

But Celina, 56, immediately feared for her son in the country with the world’s highest murder rate.

 

She said: “When Arnold told me he wanted to return to Honduras my hair stood on end. Right away I knew it was a bad idea.

 

“I was happy when he was in Scotland. I knew he was safe with no security worries. He was well looked after by Rangers.

 

“He spoke very highly about the people in Scotland. But I felt he could be a target in Honduras because he had money.

 

“The first thing that came into my head was that Arnold or one of our family could be kidnapped or assassinated. I was not wrong.”

 

Peralta, 26, was shot 18 times in his home town of La Ceiba last December in front of wife Oliva, 27, and baby daughter Camila.

 

But his shattered mum insists it was one rash challenge at Stenhousemuir that sealed his fate.

 

She said: “I told Arnold to stay in Scotland but he told me, ‘I want to play again.’ He was no longer getting a regular game at Rangers. He told me his chances of playing again were slim.

 

“He made a big mistake in one game when the ref showed him a red card. He admitted that to me.

 

“After that he didn’t play much. He spoke with the manager but from that talk he understood he was not in his plans any more.

Probably one of the worst pieces of journalism ive read.

 

The blame lies firmly with the gunman. Trying to shift blame onto Rangers, McCoist or even Arnold himself is nothing short of disgusting.

I think it's one of those nonsense ways of thinking - how does she know he wouldn't have been run over and killed had he stayed in Scotland? Or whatever.

 

There is no obvious cause and effect, no related decision made against a better judgement, just that if you change a tiny bit of what led up to something, then it wouldn't have happened. It wouldn't have happened if he chose to do something different that day, or stayed in bed, or got up earlier, or moved to another city... or an infinite number of other slight changes. It's a destructive way to think.

It's just the desperate 'if only' of a mother grieving her son, which is then twisted by journalist vultures to sensationalise it.

 

She's clearly being taken advantage of to get hits/comments on the paper.
