Former Berwick ace Brian Martin was caught out due to his mugshot

A hooligan footballer’s career is in tatters after being banned from every ground in Britain over his part in last year’s Scottish Cup final mayhem.

Defender Brian Martin was one of hundreds of fans who invaded the pitch after Hibs’ last-gasp 3-2 win against Rangers.

Martin, who played for Berwick Rangers, was charged under the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act.

The 31-year-old has now left the Scottish Second Division side after pleading guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this month to running on to the Hampden turf.

He was fined £800 and issued with a one-year football banning order.

His punishment means he can now be arrested if he tries to enter a football stadium.

We can also reveal that Martin appeared in court last November charged with attacking a Gers fan on the pitch during the chaos last May. However, his not guilty plea to attacking the supporter was accepted.

Martin, who runs an electrical business in Musselburgh, East Lothian, with his father, was arrested after police released a CCTV image of him on the pitch and asked the public to name him.

He joined Berwick Rangers from Musselburgh Athletic in January 2016 after a successful career in junior football.

The centre-half captained Musselburgh to the Junior Cup final in 2015 but they lost 2-1 to Ayrshire’s Auchinleck Talbot.

Martin played his last game for Berwick in their 2-1 defeat to Montrose on January 28. He claims he has now retired.

Martin said: “I was treated fairly enough by the courts. I was just one of the unlucky ones and have got to accept it and move on.

“It has been a bit over the top but they have to be seen to be doing something.”

Martin believes he could have appealed the ban order.

He added: “I think I could have come to an arrangement with the court to continue playing but I’m not interested.

“I don’t go to a lot of matches either – I only go to finals.

“The only reason I left Berwick was because I was too busy working. It was nothing to do with the court case. Berwick were supporting me – they were decent.”

Yesterday Berwick club secretary Dennis McCleary said: “Brian is no longer at the club so we cannot comment.”

Photos of more than 300 suspects have been made public during the 10-month probe. Officers have so far made 145 arrests.

A special incident room has been set up in Govan police office in Glasgow to target the pitch invaders.

Hibs have pledged to find all those involved in the violence and issue them with a ban.

Easter Road would be half-empty then ...

EDIT: I actually don't know how full it normally is, so it might be much worse.
