Ayrshire dad brands ex a 'dirty Orange b*****d' in row over son's Celtic top

Daniel Morgan admitted to sending a text that was threatening, abusive and sectarian.

A young mum was unhappy when she found her three-year-old son wearing a Celtic FC top.

The tot’s dad had picked him up from nursery, Ayr Sheriff Court heard.

And the mum went to collect him from the house where dad Daniel Morgan lives.

But when she got her son back to her own house, near Troon, she saw he was wearing the Celtic top.

The court heard she was concerned due to her son’s age, and the issues that can surround Old Firm colours.

The mum texted her former partner saying: “Going to do me a favour? Don’t put a Celtic strip on him.”

Morgan texted back: “No.” But the mum insisted: “Sorry, but I don’t want him involved in this kind of thing, until he’s old enough to make up his own mind.”

Morgan texted back: “He’s not involved in anything. He’s been to CP. Don’t be sorry. He will always be a critic. Dirty Orange B*****d.”

Depute fiscal Iain Gray said the young mum took this to be a reference to her religious beliefs, as well as being abusive. And she contacted police.

When Morgan, 23, was questioned by police, he stated: “I’m a Catholic. She’s a Catholic.”

But then he looked at his phone and remorsefully said: “Why have I done that?”

A lawyer for Morgan said he had been in a relationship with the child’s mother for nearly two years.

It had ended in 2014, but everything between them was normally alright, with shared custody of their son.

“I don’t know why he did this,” said the lawyer. “Since the offence he’s not been allowed to see him.”

The court heard Morgan lived with his parents in Kilwinning. And he had a job paying £300 to £400 per week.

The charge Morgan admits states that on May 12 this year he sent a text that was threatening, abusive and sectarian.

And the charge is aggravated by both religious prejudice and abuse of an ex-partner.

Sheriff Mhari Mactaggart imposed a fine of £400 on Morgan, payable at £20 per week.

The mom's right and the dad's wrong. It's not that the kid would incite anything, it's just the acrimonious atmosphere and the parochial nutters around right now.

Remember at Hampden the scum opened the back door of a van and bottled a ten-year old?
