The Anti Rangers SNP

Our support is so large and diverse that they cannot be out into a simple political bucket.  It's easy for other groups to associate with one political party or ideal, but it's not so easy for our support.  I'm accepting of that, although I do agree that there does seem to be a large number of SNP MSPs who are eager to demonstrate a blatant bias given any opportunity.  Some of the posts from MSPs are just bewildering.  I couldn't get away with posting anything like that or I'd lose my position, and I'm not a public servant!!!

There was also the story of the senior barrister (I think) who apologised and now everything seems to have been forgiven.  What?!?!?

From their side, there lots of benefits from involving us in their politics. Dividing our support is another one that can be added to point scoring, entrenching their voters, damaging our brand etc...

I’ve been following Rangers for the last 60 years and don’t need told by the Vangaurd Bears or any of the other right wing racist bigots  that I’m not a real Rangers fan. I believe in Scottish Independence and will vote for it next time, I’m not a member of the SNP.

The VB are just another self appointed group who believe they know better than the rest of us. They have a history of acting against fellow Rangers fans, I disregard most of what they say.

Did you enjoy their banners in September 2014?

no idea what their banners were, but if they support the union (as their name suggests), fine....just don't tell me or any other fan what we should or should not believe or support.

Can someone please point out any specific area SNP policy that is Anti-Rangers???

The comments etc mention in the original article are attributed to specific people and are not representative of SNP policy.  The main issue is that their comments etc were made from their "work" accounts rather than personal one.

and for the record, I don't buy into all the Britishness shite...the union flags, one great nation etc.  I don't agree that Rangers are a British club - there is no British football association, never has been.  Rangers are Scottish - always has been, always will be...in the eyes of EUFA/FIFA, Scotland is a completely separate entity to England - There is no British!!!  By all means be Royalist, and support the Queen....but that is a different thing completely.

I am also a fully paid up member of the SNP, and avid supporter of full Independence for Scotland - both of which have absolutely no bearing on which football team I support.  Now there appears to folk on here telling me that I shouldn't be able to support Rangers, due to also wanting what is best for my country.

Politics should play absolutely ZERO part of supporting a football team!!!

Rangers aren’t a British club? Yes they are. We are from Britain. There’s no denying that.

I’m not a rampant Unionist but I am definitely pro-Union and there’s no denying that Rangers, as a club, is proud of its Unionist character. I don’t know if you’ve noticed the many Union Flags around the ground (as well as Scottish which I absolutely love) and the singing of Rule Brittania?

Politics should play no part in football but in recent times (and the past) politics has forced itself into football. Again, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but our club and fans are constantly under verbal attack from newspapers (which have political agendas) and directly from politicians, especially from one party and historically from another. There is absolutely no denying that.

The SNP seem happy to be slowly aligning themselves with an Irish Republican party and Rangers are always going to be an easy target to gain votes from those that are happy to see us being attacked.

Rangers and Scottish nationalism should not be connected. I think the para military style antics by this UB segment should be condemned by all but I wouldn't vote for Scottish independence.  I was out of the country at the time but I would have voted no.

It's no use saying these clowns caused no trouble when surrounded by a cordon of police. Causing no trouble when there is a cop for every handful of them? That's to be commended?  How much trouble would there be anywhere in the country if we had 10 million cops on the streets?

The club is registered to the SCOTTISH FA, the parent company is SCOTTISH registered and when playing abroad, represents SCOTLAND.  Therefore the club is 1st & foremost SCOTTISH, since there is no British Football Assoc. or even any cross-border initiatives etc.

I would say that the Club is more (officially) Royalist, than Unionist - this is shown by the various portraits of the Queen.  However, I believe that the unionism is generated by the fans and probably originates from the Royalist belief.  Many folk will believe that you can't be Royalist & Pro-Indy...which isn't true.

Who said that?  What trouble do you think they would've caused without a Police escort?

Obviously the march was 'toxic', 'sinister' and had 'dark elements' (all of which I've learned about on here) but what evidence is there they were looking to cause trouble?

What are you even talking about?  Who said what? Do you need to have the obvious pointed out to you?  What's the evidence any disruptive 'protest' that has turned into trouble in the past was potentially going to go that way?  Face masks come to mind?  That too much of an Einsteinian leap?

You had to learn on here that it looked sinister?  That's frankly bizarre.

Now present the evidence that it was just a bunch of boys marching like a sally ally band singing kumbaya even if not surrounded by cops. See how easily that is turned around?
