In memorial ceremony

Watching Burnley v Leicester on SkyTV I was intrigued to see Burnley‘s 8th “In Memoriam“ ceremony, held prior to the first home game of the new year, where they have a minute of silence while the names of members of the “Burnley family” who have passed away over the last year are displayed on the big screens. On the whole I thought this was a worthwhile and tangible expression of respect by the club. There again, as one of the small number of what I still think of as a “proper football club”, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see this from Burnley.

I watched it and agree that it seemed dignified and worthwhile.

 

I have a pal who is a Burnley season ticket holder and I recall our first conversation involving Ted McMinn.  He hates Celtc (I didn't encourage that, honest).

 

Rangers have our Loving Cup ceremony and a minute's silence for the Ibrox Disaster and I feel that is sufficient, as each individual is entitled to remember Bears who are close to them who have passed away in their own way.  Grief tends to be publicly overdone nowadays, in my opinion.

I don’t think grief comes into it. It’s an annual remembrance tribute. A mark of respect.

Either way, I think we have sufficient opportunities to pay respects, as supporters and individuals. 

 

When people are continually herded into paying tribute or respect 'en masse', it all starts to get a bit meaningless.  That's just my opinion, of course.
