The latest Chinese virus

Recommended Posts

If the past is any guide to the present, it seems likely the actual situation with this Wuhan virus is already worse that the rate of drip-feeding news to the public will allow us to hear. I expect over the next few days we will be made aware of just how far and how fast this situation is moving and I don't think it will be good news. I hope to God I'm wrong.

If this was to break out in Scotland our NHS couldn't cope a consultant told me last week that January &February are the two worst months for ward closures due to the winter sickness bug that most hospitals suffer

My own operation has been put off and this is the reason the hospitals are at breaking point in these two months.

The 1918 flu epidemic killed 1% of the population of the globe and the global population is now far larger and far more mobile since then. The first US case has already been reported, it's worrying.

A 1% fatality rate would amount to around 50,000 dead in Scotland.

There isn't a university in the land that doesn't have huge numbers of Chinese students. If ever there was a disease with an effective vector already in place, this is it.

By all accounts the Spanish flu (that I believe originated in Kansas of all places) wouldn’t have a fraction of the fatalities today.
