He was a bit of a crank as well (he thought Funkadelic were rubbish and told me Mike Shrieve only made two albums with Santana). I'm currently reading Stone Junction by Jim Dodge. Other recent books I've read and would recommend are Everything Flows by Vassily Grossman (Stalin dies, prompting a Russian's exit from the Gulag and return to life) and Bridge Over The Drina by Ivo Andric (an amazing book centred on a bridge in Visegrad, Bosnia and covering several centuries of Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian rule). Bill 7,532 Posted June 12, 2021 Author Share Posted June 12, 2021 I used to read far more than I have since starting serious study a few years ago but most of the time I still have a book "on the go", although increasingly I'm prone to leaving them unfinished. An exception was "The Madness of Crowds: Gender, Race and Identity" by Douglas Murray and published by Bloomsbury, which I could hardly put down and read so quickly I now realise I'm going to have to read it again if I'm going to get all of what it offers. Murray's exposé of woke politics and the social justice myth is devastating. For my part he was like a guide, framing my thoughts in fact and clarity, providing meaning and corroboration to everything I felt only viscerally. I couldn't recommend this book highly enough. Leftists call Murray a far right fanatic, which of course he isn't, not even close, only illustrating how adept he is at uncovering the deceit at the heart of identity politics. 0 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm reading The Idiot (very enjoyable) and The Brothers Karamazov is literally top of my 'to read' shelf.
