European Super League | All six PL teams withdraw from ESL

Is it just me, or does it not sound as bad as it is being portrayed, at least from the initial reaction? :ninja:

You make one simple mistake: reading the published details.

There is only one thing that you need to know about it.

The big teams only suggest changes that divert more money towards themselves.  This reduces competition and makes football boring. Go back and look at any change suggested by the top teams. The history of the European cup since ~1990 should make it blindingly obvious.  Even the history of Scotch football since ~1998 will show you.

My first reaction was, 'this is disgusting... how do we get in?' ?

Unless we are backed by Middle Eastern capital, or owned by a country like Man City - we don't. This is football being taken over by rapacious capitalism; the working man's game controlled by corporations who only want to maintain their profit margins. No thought for the fans who dream of their team getting to the top by sporting means only.

Apparently a letter of intent has been signed by 6 EPL, 3 biggest Spanish and 3 biggest Italian clubs to form a breakaway league.

Gary Neville going absolutely MENTAL about it, and rightly so !

Scandalous

We can put a stop to it by banning all the players from internationals and their respective leagues; they must not be allowed to have their cake and eat it. I fear though that there will eventually by some sort of mucky messy compromise with sweeteners. Speaking parochially, I don't think they will give Rangers a sniff.

That guardian article has some real gems in it.

Here is the unbearably dull Labour leader using his words.

"This proposal risks shutting the door on fans for good, reducing them to mere spectators and consumers. The clubs involved in this proposal should rethink immediately. And if they don’t, they should face the consequences of their actions."

Anybody want to tell him how this works?

And Labour members thought he was a safe pair of hands after Corbyn.

The only thing that stops it is the inevitable U.E.F.A. capitulation to give them more money.

Even if many European viewers ignored it the league would still be sold to external markets for bundles.
