Reserves v Falkirk Today

Recommended Posts

A stronger than normal reserve side had an easy three nil win over Falkirk at Broadwood today with two goals from Charlie Adam and another from Gow.

We led 2-0 at ht thanks to Charlies free kick goal and another from a great of the ball run onto a pass from Webster, Alan Gow finished it of with 5 minutes remaining with a gola very like Liverpools on Sunday.

I'm sure a report will appear on the official site.

after the la galaxy game i'm really excited about gow. perhaps irrationally so. i'd really like to see him get a game.

Aye he was really impressive in that one. Unfortunately circumstances have conspired to prevent anymore first team football. Will be difficult for him to get in the side the way we're playing, but hopefully Alan and the fans don't have long to wait.

Official report

Adam Fine Display

CHARLIE ADAM has staked his claim for a first-team recall with a sensational double in the Reserves 3-0 win over Falkirk this afternoon.

Charlie Adam celebrates his second goalThe 21-year-old midfielder could not even make the bench as Rangers hammered the Bairns 7-2 on Saturday afternoon but the commitment and skill he displayed for the second string must have pleased Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowall who were watching the action from the Broadwood stands.

Ian Durrant was able to field an exceptionally strong side for the Reserve's second league game of the season with Graeme Smith, Andy Webster, Kirk Broadfoot, Ian Murray, Alan Gow, Chris Burke and Adam all included in the starting line-up.

The big surprise was that there was not place in the squad for Slovakian striker Filip Sebo with youngsters Steven Lennon and Gow spearheading the attack.

Rangers opened the scoring when Chris Burke, who played the full 90 minutes, was impeded 25 yards from goal and Adam's resulting free-kick took a slight deflection off the wall before beating keeper Jamie Barclay.

The Light Blues then doubled their advantage six minutes before the half-time interval when Andy Webster caught the Falkirk defence napping with a long pass to Adam and he controlled Andy Webster the ball brilliantly before drilling it home off the post.

A bit of gloss was added to the performance when Gow notched a third with 84 minutes played.

Broadfoot fed the ball to his teammate who wasted no time in finding the net against his former club.

Ian Durrant was delighted with the performance and result. He said: "We know that the first-team lads will not be with us all the time but I hope the younger players watch and learn from them.

"Andy Webster strolled through the game and showed class and composure on the ball.

"Charlie's technique for both goals was typical of him but it was a good performance all round."

RANGERS: Smith; Lowing, Webster, Broadfoot, Murray; Burke, McMillan (Furman 80), Emslie, Adam; Lennon (Loy 80), Gow

Finally we give the fringe players a game to get their match fitness and confidence up.

Agreed, been saying that for ages as has a few other gersnetters. When we have the first team playing well then IMO the guys that are being left out should be playing regular football in the reserves and let the young guys play in the youth teams so they are trying to get into the reserves and play alongside the experienced players which in turn will make their first step into the first squad a little less daunting after being surrounded by first team players in the reserves................ er!!! if you know what i mean :)
