Bill 13,687
The underlying problem that has been gathering pace for years in Britain is our slide into statism, call it socialism if you like. The idea that the role of the state is to run the lives of its citizens and to intervene whenever govt popularity is threatened and to place popularity ahead of competent governance. One good example is the rush to Net Zero, which is both at the root of our energy crisis and utterly undeliverable. Or there's the dysfunctional NHS that is failing to deliver its healthcare objectives but whose incompetence is sacrosanct. The country is no longer run for the benefit of its citizens but to sustain the political classes. The really worrying development is the disappearance of any conservative alternative. All our main political parties offer varying degrees of socialism and conservativism has been abandoned completely. It looks to me like we're heading for the rocks.

They decided to cause this and now its reported some energy companies are making record profits? I have lost any faith in the process to be honest. Either the costs need to go up to keep the prices competitive or the costs go up and lead to record profits for suppliers. Unless I'm missing something simple both cant be true. I've also seen that the 8 million on universal credit will receive a £650 payment from the government directly into thier bank accounts to help combat the issue with energy costs. I'm not mystic meg but I can guess many wont be using it to pay for thier fuel bills.

It'd be better if they were given tokens, specifically for the purpose intended.
