I would build new coal power stations tomorrow. Only idiots would have dismantled the ones we used to have. It's beyond belief how we've allowed ourselves to be scammed like this.

The public is too disorganised to do anything about it.

Any energy is diverted towards begging the government to criminalise extinction rebellion protests.

Guess how those powers will be used one day.

Anyone ever went to their local ‘recycling centre’ (dump) with a load of cardboard to recycle and been told just to chuck it in general waste because the cardboard bins are full? Don’t think I’ve  ever been able to put cardboard in cardboard recycling in my local dump. Defeats the purpose.

In Moray the biggest recycling centre in the County introduced an appointment system during covid. Fair enough, I suppose. The crisis (though not covid) has passed but the appointment system remains. Daft. I’m minded to drive twelve miles to one of the smaller centres where no appointment is needed. That'll be a big help towards whatever it is we’re supposed to be helping. What quantity of recycled material compensates twenty four miles on the road?

It's important to consider exactly what is meant by recycling.

There's 'political recycling' that measures its progress by the amount of various materials that are collected and is expressed in terms of strategic plans and facilities. You will find loads of govt statistics online to show you how different local authorities are performing.

Then there's actual recycling - the amount of collected material that ends up being recycled into new materials or products. You will find almost no data about this. Y

What is apparent is that published recycling data bears little resemblance to how much is actually recycled into new usable products, how much is shipped overseas and how much goes to landfill or incineration. Which suggests a degree of dishonesty about the purpose and efficacy of our recycling efforts.

Its encouraging fly tipping which I have certainly noticed an increase of in my local council area (renfrewshire). Dumps need to be as accessible as possible or people will find a lazy alternative. Junk going to landfill is still a better option that it being dumped everywhere and anywhere.

We(UK authorities) are as transparent about this as China are with thier manufacturing emissions. It seems no one really cares that much about the environment and only really enjoy signalling virtue.

How often do you hear people complaining about the decay of our High Streets, shops closing and moving away, while in the name of net zero councils do everything they can to exclude cars and customers from town centres?

Funny enough, locals here have voted (via council website) to keep appts as there are now no queues. Before Covid everyone turned up at the same time and you were queuing down the road before even reaching the bays, especially at weekends.
