Bang on the money Sir.

Once upon a time, they grew sales by giving the customer what the customer actually wanted and would benefit from. Now they take the customer out of the equation and simply tell him what he must buy or bribe him into compliance.

Nobody is pushing it harder than Motability, they reduced the deposits on some EV's by £4.5k last month (from £6.5 to £2k).

Are they practical for motability? Obviously some users have different needs than others but in terms of accessibility and storage for walking aids / wheelchairs etc

Personally speaking no. I currently have a BMW 318i Touring and I have to order a replacement by the end of December as I've already had 2 lease extensions.

I've always had medium/large estates for practical reasons. Used to be a very simple process come renewal time as virtually all the cars on the scheme had the estate option i.e. Mondeo's, Vectra's, Passatt's etc. Last 2 cars before the BMW were Volvo V70 and Volvo V60.

Estates are a dying breed but even more so on the Motability scheme. All these crossover/SUV type things you get now tend to be too high for people like me (I recently went to a big exhibition of Motability vehicles at Ingilston) tried the BMW 2 series Active Tourer but was just too high, same with practically every thing else on display apart from the Ford Focus Estate and Suzuki Swace estate.

Motabilty like most charity's appear to have to a degree forgotten the very reason they were created. Don't get me wrong they provide an extremely valuable service and were very customer focused with unparalleled customer service but like the rest of the planet they're drifting towards wokery.

Electric cars aren't really an option for us living quite rural as there's practically zero infrastructure plus what there is isn't really accessible for those of my ilk. A round trip to Ibrox for me is 400 miles that would probably require 2 charging stops.

That's the current top 30 Motability deals they're practically all either crossover/SUV's or electric.

None of those are practical for my needs, the closest would be the A3 but I've looked at one and the boot is way too small an A4 would be ok but they're available only in Q4 electric variant which isn't practical. The BMW 2 series Grand Coupe would be ok to a degree as it has a decent boot but if I wanted to carry something more than a wheelchair I'd have to fold down the rear seats ergo lose the use of the rear seats restricting capacity to one passenger.

Oh joy!

Shell is suing Greenpeace for $2.1m (£1.7m) in damages after environmental protesters occupied a vessel transporting one of the oil company's floating platforms earlier this year.

Activists boarded the White Marlin ship north of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic in January. Shell said it was entitled to recover "the significant costs of responding to Greenpeace's dangerous actions". However, Greenpeace said it planned to contest the action.

The environmental group described it as "one of the biggest legal threats" in its history.
