I'm a bit early with this, but this could be a tasty series.

It's just been announced that Jofra Archer is ruled out. I'm not surprised.

That’s an impressive line up in the commentary box. Such a pity there’s no place for great cricketers like Michael Vaughan or David Gower though.

I do miss Gower. I think he's doing work with BT sports?

Vaughan was with the BBC, so I wouldn't be listening to him anyway. I've seen him a few times on Sky Sports for various things, but I've never liked him.

He was rubbish in the early part of his commentary career. Too much emphasis on the condition of the steak sandwiches instead of the condition of the wicket and blasphemous towards the great Sir Geoffrey. He has improved considerably and I may listen to him out of solidarity after his recent troubles.

Vaughan may have had a ropey start to his TV career but I think he now offers one of the best insights into test cricket, as does KP. Nasser Hussein is opinionated, which I like, but talks a lot without much substance. Atherton is the best cricket thinker but his delivery can be tedious. But the best have always been the Aussies and my particular favourite is Mark Taylor who talks just like he played. It's a pity they couldn't have got Adam Gilchrist on board.

Most of the colonials are excellent both as commentators and summarisers. The diction of the Indians and the chap from Sri Lanka is excellent as well as their ability to describe the play.

I’m not impressed with any of the women except the dame from the Caribbean a few years ago. Could listen to her all day.
