The dear green place

Recommended Posts

On the rare occasion I spend time in Glasgow, I see a city with a clear impression of its past and clueless about its future.

I suppose, as @CammyF says, that could hold good for many UK cities but the contrast is seldom as great because few cities have a past quite like Glasgow.

Yeah, same all over the UK - Glasgow isn't "unique" in that respect or any of Compo's gripes.

While some of the gripes may not be unique, I can't think of another city whose council are so determined to run their city down. The introduction of the LEZ following on from the reduced train and bus services and the significant reduction of availability of taxis make it more difficult to go into the city centre  in the evenings and are seeing restaurants close as a result.

"Despite wrestling with a near-£50m budget black hole, a new probe has revealed that City Chambers bosses splashed tens of thousands of pounds holding conferences and workshops at both Hampden and Celtic Park.

Just over £67,000 was spent hiring function suits and space at the East End home of the Hoops, while another £23,984 was paid to secure space at Hampden Park for four separate events."

Glaswegians really know how to elect slime, don't they.

Glasgow is a shining example of democracy in action. It votes for shite and it gets shite, what could be more democratic.

Rather like Scotland as a whole really.

There should be an intelligence test before you're allowed to vote.

There should be an intelligence test before you are allowed to stand for election.

That would wipe the SNP out, in short order.
