Alcohol is ridiculously cheap in this country.

It's more expensive than it is in most countries.

Drinking is part of Scottish culture.

The puritans of the SNP can take their de-Scottishifying of Scotland and ram it up their leader's wife's arse.

I agree to an extent although mentioning the Nakla's arse conjours some fairly horrific images. The problem I have is that what actually seems to be part of Scottish culture is excessive drinking and the manic pursuit of oblivion. It was thus long before the SNP and it will be thus long after them too. Anyway, I drink too infrequently to care about price.

It is a huge problem in Scotland and I'd definitely include myself in that, albeit more when I was in my 20s and a lot less recently.

I'm not convinced price hikes will fix the problem.

That's like expecting referees giving loads of soft penalties to Celtc to fix their support's mental problems with Masons.

A change in culture and societal routine will.

A pub was a place to meet friends and be sociable. The younger generations don't do that anymore. They don't need to, they have phones.

Lots of younger lads are more interested in going to the gym and being diet focused than my generation ever were.

The problem will go away soon.

We all ready for the new improved problems?

A nation of total fannies, who think words are worse than a smack in the face.

When this was reported in the Guardian, prior to the announcement, the new prices given were £18.20 for whisky and £16.90 for vodka.  I see from the BBC website report that the new prices are £18.20 and £17.06. I thought £16.90 was too good to be true.

Oh dear. I shall simply need to continue to buy my favourite German beer on line to avoid the latest SNP nonsense. Either that or a wee trip to Carlisle or Berwick upon Tweed supermarkets to stick up 🤓
