Premier League clubs to vote on scrapping VAR next season

Recommended Posts

Premier League clubs will be asked to vote on the possible abolition of Video Assistant Referees [VAR] for next season after a proposal tabled by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The proposal is due be heard at a shareholders' meeting on June 6.

Sky Sports News understands the Premier League board is directly opposed to the proposal.

The Premier League recognises Wolves' right to make such a proposal, but it feels abolishing VAR would lead to many more incorrect decisions.

Rumour is they will not get the 14 votes needed. Clubs tend to vote with what the EPL and media want. The EPL has fully bought into the tech and does not want the league to be viewed as backward by Europe, also the rights holders believe VAR is great TV. Both do not care how this manifests itself with the match going fans as they are smaller demographic than the global armchair fans.
