  1. Just had a look at the thread starting "Davie Cooper tattoos" and saw a guy with a really big tattoo of Bochum(from Germany) and Rangers f.c.

It got me wondering just how many football teams around the world Rangers are closeley associated with.

The Bochum one i never knew about as in Germany i always thought Rangers fans had an affinity with SV Hamburg fans.

So, anyone care to give us a few teams Rangers fans tend to lean towards?

  2. I wouldn't worry about losing the league again Cammy. It's obvious Rangers fans are going to be extra on edge after what happened at the end of last season, but for me your summary is a good one, but it's not completely down to Rangers results that we will win the league.

Celtic are on a roll of unbelievable good fortune which started with the postponement of the old firm game last new year. If it had've been played then, i honestly feel the league flag would be flying over Ibrox right now.

Then, they staged a remarkable comeback based on Rangers losing ground in the league due to their european campaign. Any other season and again, we would be title holders. But we now know the team had their eye on lifting the UEFA cup more than the league championship.

Now, they(celtic) are still grinding out results, but it's November and they've been doing it for 2 months now.

There's no way in this world that they can continue to do that, especially with 11 first team players out.

They are now getting a taste of what we had to endure last season and as a result i fully expect Celtic to start dropping points rapidly before xmas.

Imo Rangers have learnt tons since this time last season, and i fully expect them to capitalise on their errors from then.

If they don't then changes will be ready.

  3. Rightly or wrongly there is only one person who will get the nod from Smith and that is BF. I prefer to keep the width rather than have a diamond with 4 defensive midfielder's or play-makers. It would be an option with attacking wing-backs but we are short of them.

I don't think wing backs works for Rangers somehow.

Smith has tried it a few times but i can't remember any succesful attempts.

  4. That's the good thing about playing a diamond - all 4 players can interchange if required.

Unfortunately, it does mean we're restricted width-wise and if an opposition team plays 5 in midfield, it can get congested at times.

    Yeah good point.

With the Celtic game coming up though it's imperative that Smith gets Thomson's replacement right.

I wouldn't change from a diamond, i've supported this system for years and waited patiently for Rangers to employ it and now we can see the benefits.

Against Dundee utd you could see the amount of ball retention and the way we were playing higher up the field with the ball in possession as oppossed to last year where the midfield would often wait till the opposition got to the final third before seriously trying to win the ball back.

Smith knows this is the system for Rangers but he has to make sure Thomsons replacement is a good one.

I really liked the look of Edu when he was on and i hope he gets a chance.

  5. I tend to agree with you guys. It's got to be time for Mo Edu to get a game now.

He's looked very sharp, quick and hard in the tackle when playing so i hope Smith thinks he's waited long enough. Hemdani for me is leaving at Xmas, although now Thommos out it could just tempt Smith to keep him till the summer now.

Total bad news with Thomson out of the whole of the campaign now. He was holding the play for the rest of the creative midfielders brilliantly and what a shame to break up what looked like a championship winning midfield.

Another possibilty could be this though.......

    ........................Davis...........................

    ....Fergie..................................Mendes...

    ......................Lafferty.......................

    but i'd prefer.....

    ........................Edu............................

    ........Mendes.........................Davis.........

    ......................Fergie..............................

  6. Can i ask you though? If that had've been in the enclosure you might have not been as on edge as you would've been in with your own fans.

I see your point totally, but i wonder if the same experience took place for you in Ibrox you might have joined in?

  7. It's a no brainer in my book. It's an obvious yes.

I was brought up watching Rangers games in the east enclosure(as i'm sure lots of fans were) and the memories of the goal celebrations in there will never leave me.

One of the best was McCoist scoring v Aberdeen in the pissing rain and he ran over there, done a few robotic steps(20 years BEFORE Peter Crouch's pathetic version)and kissed his boot after slotting home a 20 yard volley past Leighton.

The crowd just surged forward, and the poor folk at the front(usually wee kiddies) always got crushed.(thinking back i honestly don't know how there weren't more injuries than there was each home game).

But, i wouldn't swap the Ibrox we've got the now for the Ibrox we had then. Yes it's a half corporate kind of stadium with all it's restaurants and boxes, but the other half gives total comfort to watch our beloved team.

Obviously the atmosphere was a lot better in the old terracing because of the swaying, closeness of fans, but things have changed since then that probably wouldn't bring back the old days.

For example, the amount of drunks i saw swigging out of beer cans in the late 70s and early 80s was scary. And the "sectarion" element made it a more vicious and louder and more volatile crowd.

Now we live in PC city where you can't shout "bugger" or you'll be lifted(or so it seems). So to go to the expense of bringing back the terracing i'm just not sure it would bring back what the people are hoping for.

For a start, can you imagine what people will be like getting their feet trodden on and people next to you sneezing in the back of your head, after having had your own seat where you can fidget around all you want for 90 minutes?

Then the minute theres any hint of crowd disturbance we will get all the old arguments springing back up about how unsafe the terracing is and the potential for another Hillsborough or Heysel disasters.

Don't get me wrong, i'd love the chance to try it again, but i just couldn't see many people bar a few die hards in it because of the closeness and invasion of privacy that goes on thats so important to todays politically correct individual.

It's a good potential for debate, and as i say i'd love the chance to see it work out. But i think football arenas have moved on from those cramped days in Scotland, even if it's been succesful in Germany, i still think Scottish fans are not controlled enough to make this work again.

  8. Many good points guys, thanx for that.

I have come to the conclusion that DMB and Burke must be moved on.

They are squad players, that very rarely make any real impact in games, but the potential is still huge if they could be utilised properly in the right team and tactics.

However, i still think if they went to ,say, Hull City ,and Phil Brown used them as wingers, they'd still be injured more than used in games and therefore they are no use to the current Rangers management and as a result i hope they both are moved on in January.

  9. Can't see us getting £2million for him as he's not done enough to justify such an increase from the £700K we paid.

Hopefully he'll improve over the coming weeks as generally he's not been good enough.

Yes, i see your point Frankie.

I think he is quite well thought of in Germany etc but as you say, it's very unlikely we'll get £2m for him on his current form.

Gazza 8 also has a good point too. I think it is always quite hard to sell someone when they are playing the poor football they are playing. I can just picture the likes of perhaps Schalke wanting him, but waiting until his contract expires(rather like what they done with Lovenpants), rather than pay even 500k.

WS needs to give him an extra hard boot up the arse.:admin:

  10. Well, this guy Pete was right Gazza.

Maybe he should work as Rangers answer to Daniel Commoli. Honestly though, if we got £1m for him now i would be happy im sorry to say.

  11. I would be really interested to hear you guys thoughts on him.

When we first signed him i really thought he would be the type of player who could make a real impact in the spl. But i have been really disapointed with him, and lateley my frustrations have become worse and worse with each passing injury he picks up.

As far as i can gather he is fairly well regarded on the continent and if it came to it i think a Bundasliga team could bail us out with a £2m bid or thereabouts, but i still always hope he will come good after all this time.

If you ask me, with DMBs speed and trickery he should be destroying teams like ICT and StMirren, but to be honest i cannot remeber when he last played a full 90 minutes and won a man of the match award.

He is a very useful player to have in your squad, but i am now beginning to feel like he would be better away from Ibrox and we would benefit more from £2m or thereabouts.

    Whats your thoughts on him?
