  1. It won't hurt us that much financially as we will still get the tv cash.

It is a fantastic gesture, whatever the motives are for it!

I like the way Green thinks.....he seems a devious bastard and we need someone like that. Its been missing for way to long.

**edit** Devious in a good way for the club. Not like the previous devious bastards that ruined everything!!!

He might be a devious bastard but he is our devious bastard.

  2. we won't be able to really hurt utd here anyway. chances are they will get good ticket sales and add in the tv money.

however, when we start meeting them in the league again we can really hurt them. this is all about setting ourselves up properly for that

people say what if its a draw. but they do.t understand what's going on here. if its a draw we go along and sell out ibrox and roar like lions at the zebra.

the real killer blow is still to come and utd are the wounded zebra

If it is a draw and we subsequently sell out Ibrox, will Dundee United donate their share of the gate receipts to charity?

  3. It seems that the boycott is costing us more than it's costing Dundee Utd. I thought that the point of it was to make them suffer and not us.

It was never about the money ... at least not in the short term

It was about sending a message to Scottish football that the days of us bending over so they can shaft us are over. It was also about demonstrating that the support are united in the face of our enemies and that the club are in lock-step with us.

  4. I don't think we know, as yet, where the line should be drawn. And that is because what we have is a moving target. I would love it if someone at the SFA/SPL came and made a fair proposal as to how we can put all this behind us. But while they are still intent on punishing us, while they continue to try and screw us over financially, while the SPL chairmen exude hate and spitefulness, I don't see how we can draw a line.

That does not mean we adopt a scatter gun approach. I think we need to choose our targets wisely. Dundee United is one such target and more than merits anything we can throw at them. Aberdeen and Hibs should also be targets. But the wider picture is that the SFA/SPL need to understand that we are not going to take it anymore and they need to take action to defuse the situation. I think it is going to end up being a battle of wills. We need to be willing to go all the way and take this confrontation to a conclusion. Because, if we don't, you just know we will get shafted yet again.

  5. I would hope that the SFL clubs are bright enough to ask the hard questions ..... where is the money coming from, how long will it be available and is it guaranteed.

However, after the events of this last year, it would be foolish to underestimate the stupidity of those running our clubs.

  6. For me, the point of this boycott is to send a message to Scottish football that we are not going to bend over and allow you to shaft us any more and we are not going to go away.

At some point, and for the benefit of everyone, peace needs to break out in Scottish football. We should never have needed to apply this boycott and, hopefully, we will not need to call any future ones. But for peace to happen, there will need to be some changes and some concessions at the SFA and SPL. First, the threat of lifting our titles has to go away. Second, the illegal transfer embargo has to be lifted. Third, monies retained by the SFA and SPL need to be paid over and finally the SFA and SPL need to stop with the threats to our TV rights.

Sadly, I don't think there is anyone at the SFA or SPL with the wisdom and the ability to call an end to hostilities. Chances are that they will simply make matters worse in their response to the boycott. And that means that we will have to continue our actions. It also means that a a confrontation in the Court of Session is almost inevitable. And none of that can be good for Scottish football.

  7. I think Charles Green would love the SFA to try a fly rule change ort a disrepute charge. His statement has been very cleverly worded. IMHO, he would have them in the Court of Session in a heartbeat.

The smart thing for the SFA to do is to end the witch hunt, disband the SPL inquiry and re-establish normal relations. Then, perhaps, we can all move on.

  8. Should an appeal be granted and should it be "successful", what will HMRC gain financially against an already insolvent owner ?

I think it is a credibility issue. Losing the FTT case was a big blow for HMRC specially after putting Rangers into liquidation, all the publicity and the rush to judgement by the Scottish media. They now have to contend with a PF/Crown Office investigation as requested by Murray and his high-powered lawyers, an e-petition which has garnered 32k signatures in just two weeks and questions from a couple of MPs who want to ensure that they don't lose the 'blue' vote at the next election.

M guess is that the 'high heid yins' at the HMRC are desperate to have a result so that they can say they were right all along. It also defuses the current situation as everyone will now be waiting for the result of the appeal. And that will take around three years.

  9. Seems a strange one right enough.

Mate telling me its the Ramsay something that she thinks the judges haven't applied properly.

I believe that the whole case turns on how the Ramsay precedent is applied.

  10. I'll take the bet. "We understand that there needs to be a lot of redistribution from the biggest clubs and that is something the clubs in principle bought into today." Neil Doncaster today.

There is a big difference between 'principle' and cold hard cash hitting the bottom line.

Stewart Milne just wrote off £3.7m and Aberdeen Asset Management another £2.25m. How much appetite do you think they will have for further losses in the interest of 'fairness'?

  11. I think this view is outdated.

I believe that there is a recognition now amongst the SPL clubs that the money needs to be shared more evenly amongst the leagues and more equally within the leagues.

The FansFirst Plan pushed both concepts very hard.

As I know from experience, there is a huge difference between understanding that a problem exists and actually being willing to take a significant financial hit - especially when the business is only marginally profitable if at all - in order to fix it. The corporate world is full of the corpses of companies that could not - or were unwilling to - move on.

I do not believe that people like Milne, Thomson, Pirie, Desmond or Masterton are willing to lose hundreds of thousands of pounds on reconstruction or 'fairness' unless the alternative is a lot worse and staring them in the face. The more so as, in most cases, it is their personal money that is at stake.

I am willing to make a friendly bet with you that we will not see fundamental change in the structure of Scottish football until the current SPL is facing a major financial crisis.

  12. ...so boycotting this game will hurry it up?

I covered the reasons for a boycott in another post which you already responded to.

The comment above was a response to BH and not specific to this or any other boycott. Please try to respect the context in which remarks are made.
