  1. We’re delighted to launch our first batch of Founders Trail and Ibrox Stadium Tour dates for 2017.

This is our eighth year and the popularity of the Trail continues to soar!

Since we first took to the streets of Glasgow in 2009 we’ve taken over 6,000 people on the Trail of our Founders and through the doors of Ibrox Stadium ,many for the first time.

Through the education process of the Founders Trail our objective is to safeguard our unique and wonderful history for future generations.

So let us Follow Follow in the Footsteps of our Founders.

The Founders Trail and Ibrox Stadium Tour dates are as follows:

    SUNDAY 19TH FEBRUARY

    SATURDAY 25TH MARCH

    SUNDAY 16TH APRIL

    SUNDAY 21ST MAY

    SUNDAY 11TH JUNE

    SATURDAY 15TH JULY.

***Tour dates may be subject to change due to football fixtures***

Join us on a journey of discovery back to 1872 when The Rangers were just the dream of a group of young kids who gathered on Fleshers Haugh. They had no ball, no football kit and used a bush on the Glasgow Green as a changing room.

Their Club, which they nurtured, was to become the world's most successful and it all happened on the streets of Glasgow.

Our day begins at the Founders Trail welcome desk which is located within Bar 72 at Ibrox Stadium from 11.15am on the day of the Tour prior to our 12pm departure from outside of the Ibrox Megastore.

Our journey takes us to the area of Fleshers Haugh where The Rangers played their first ever match, we also visit Glassford Street, Union Street, Berkeley Street, Burnbank, Kinning Park, Craigton Cemetery and many other places of interest before finishing off our day with a tour of our magnificent Ibrox Stadium.

During our journey we have a 30 minute break at the Partick Bowling Club which is in the shadow of the historic West of Scotland Cricket Ground which was the scene of the Rangers first ever Scottish Cup Final in 1877. This gives everyone a chance to unwind, grab a beer or soft drink and a bite to eat at a beautiful and historical setting.

Due to an increase in price of the Ibrox Stadium Tour we’ve unfortunately had to adjust our Tour price accordingly.

To avoid disappointment please reserve your seat early as the Founders Trail does sell out very quickly.

    Prices are as follows.

    Adults £25

Children (under 16) and Senior Citizens £18

Group discounts are available upon request.

    James Henderson.

    President 1898 - 1899

    Chairman 1899 – 1912

When James Henderson died after a short illness on 10 May, 1912, the loss was not only felt by Rangers Football Club.

Like so many others who took the office of chairman of Rangers, Mr Henderson served his city as well.

He represented Kingston Ward, entering Glasgow Town Council in 1903. He rose to Senior Magistrate and was made a Baillie in 1907. He was most fondly remembered for the work he did for the welfare of poor children, serving as chairman of the Children’s Committee of Govan Parish Council. James Henderson was also a Justice of the Peace.

James Henderson’s working life began, remarkably, as a fourteen year old taxi driver. By his mid-twenties, he had set up his own taxi company at Paisley Road Toll,( it is now the Grand Old Opry building). Such was the success of the business, it became a limited company in 1897, with its founder as managing director.

It is clear not a minute of a day was wasted in the life of James Henderson.

Despite running a successful business and being committed to serving his city, he also found time to become a highly respected football administrator.

Having been vice-president to J R Gow in 1896-1897 and 1897-98, James Henderson became president of Rangers Football Club in that most wonderful of seasons, 1898-99. That, of course, was the year the record of winning every league game played was set.

At the end of 1898-99, the bold step of Rangers Football Club becoming Rangers Football Club Limited was taken.

President Henderson became Chairman Henderson at the first board meeting of the new company on 1 June, 1899.

A lover of athletics as well as football, James Henderson was a believer in keeping all sport “clean”. He served as president of the Scottish League and the International League Board. He was also one of the oldest members of Queen’s Park.

  8. We're delighted today to provide a further update on the project work being carried out at Craigton Cemetery Glasgow to restore the final resting places of those men who built our Club.

    James Wilson.

    344s2ky.png

Late last year our research, gleamed from the records at the Mitchell Library, confirmed that a James Wilson who was trainer at Rangers from 1897 , and a respected individual who also worked tirelessly with the building process of our great Club, had died suddenly due to a bout of double pneumonia in 1914 at 21 Princes Street in Govan aged 52 and was buried at Craigton Cemetery.

Mr Struth who was trainer at Clyde at this time was offered Mr Wilson’s job at Rangers but refused to take another man’s place at our Club.

That changed upon the sudden passing of Mr Wilson.

The Club had actually organised a benefit match for Mr Wilson against Everton at Ibrox only a week before he passed.

We recently discovered Mr Wilson's stone at Craigton and were incredibly fortunate that although sadly it was off it's base it was lying on the grass inscription side up.

A real chill went through us as we cleared the earth and moss from James Wilson’s stone and the words ‘'Trainer of Rangers’' emerged.

    2j4wrq0.jpg

Craigton Cemetery had given up another gem.

Just recently Mr Wilson's stone was re-erected and cleaned.

    2n23g5d.jpg

Yesterday afternoon the final touch was added when the re-lettering was complete.

Mr James Wilson is once again standing tall.
