  1. A few years ago we located at Cathcart cemetery the plots of a number of Rangers greats, among others they included from the 1877 team William Dunlop and James Watson, players AB and Dugald McKenzie, our first manager William Wilton and Chairman William Craig. Unfortunately due to the passage of time a number of them are starting to disappear behind trees, bushes and weeds.

    This where you can help.

We need a few Bears with gardening equipment to cut everything back to save them from disappearing completely. We got a brilliant response from you guys a few weeks ago and hope you can help again.

We’ll be meeting at the Brenfield Road entrance to Cathcart Cemetery at 12pm on Saturday 24th October. Once the work is complete we’ll take everyone on a tour of the other Rangers plots at Cathcart and then retire to the Bank Bar for a couple of socially distanced cold drinks.

If you can help us please send an email to thefounderstrail@gmail.com or phone 0790 2855536.

    Iain and Gordon.

  6. A couple of years ago the Restoration of Rangers Graves Project received a call from the Elgin RSC informing us that Rangers great RC Hamilton( 367 appearances 312 goals) was resting in an unmarked grave in a cemetery in Elgin.

I asked if they could do some background work on this and get back to me but unfortunately we never heard from them again.

    Can you help?

Are you a member of this supporters club or do you know someone who is? If so please call us on 0790 2855536 or email thefounderstrail@gmail.com as we’d like to start the ball rolling to locate the plot and rectify this.

  9. John Wallace McKay was Match Secretary of Rangers Football Club from 1882-1883.

Earlier this afternoon his stone at Dunoon cemetery was cleaned and a memorial plaque placed.

Archibald Harkness was President of Rangers in 1881 and was a huge influence during his tenure at the Club.Tragically after contracting typhoid he passed at only 26 years of age.

Unfortunately due to the condition of the stone we were unable to bring it up as much as we’d wished but a memorial plaque was laid at his final resting place in Kilmun.

  12. Back in 2018 we managed to locate the final resting place at Craigton Cemetery of Rangers trainer John Taylor. Sadly it was an unmarked grave.

Today the Restoration of Rangers Graves Project placed a stone befitting of the man.

John Taylor was born in 1852 but tragically,at the age of only 45, passed in May 1897 after a bout of pneumonia.

He was a Govan man from Merryland Street,a much loved and respected individual.

He was trainer at Rangers from 1885-1897 during which time the Club moved from Kinning Park to our new home at Ibrox.

Rangers won the League for the first time in 1890 and the Scottish Cup for the first time in 1894 after beating Celtic 3-1 at Hampden, it was John Taylor who trained and coached the players, he’s pictured standing at the back with our victorious players.

We would also win four Glasgow Cups and one Glasgow Merchants Charity Cup during his tenure at the Club.

‘’Johnny’’ as he was affectionately known was a sprinter in his younger days and twice received gallantry awards for saving people from drowning.

These men gave us everything and this is today’s generation of Rangers supporters giving them back some dignity and respect.
