Rangers administrators named 'UK Corporate Restructuring Advisor of the Year'

Finance magazine ACQ has named Rangers' administrators Duff & Phelps UK Corporate Restructuring Advisor of the Year.

ACQ Finance Magazine Global Awards 2012 said the award â??recognises Duff & Phelps as the UKâ??s leading Corporate Restructuring Advisorâ?.

The award winners were selected from nominations from the publication's 32,000 global subscribers, â??who assess the quality of service received rather than the size of billingsâ? ACQ said.

Duff & Phelps was also named the Turnaround and Restructuring Advisory Firm of the Year UK and Debt Advisory Firm of the Year UK for the second year running at last night's ACQ Global Awards.

Duff & Phelps partner and Rangers' joint administrator Paul Clark said: â??The awards highlight outstanding performers across the professional services spectrum and celebrate the best advisors working across the world â?? as identified by the readers of ACQ Finance Magazine.

â??It is a real achievement for us to be recognised, not only locally, but also on a global scale by our peers, and one in which our entire team can take great prideâ?.

Clark was a co-founder of Manchester head quartered insolvency firm MCR until it was bought out by Duff & Phelps last October.

Duff &Phelps are currently facing three separate enquiries in relation to their handling of the Criag Whyte's takeover of Rangers and alleged conflicts of interest surrounding the firms appointment by Whyte as administrators of the club.

Last week, Lord Hodge, sitting at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, ordered an investigation into Duff & Phelps amid conflict of interest claims made in a BBC documentary by journalist Mark Daly.

Lord Hodge said he had no view on the claims made in the programme, but has asked what legal advice Duff & Phelps had obtained on the conflict of interest issue before accepting the appointment as Rangers' administrators.

Craig Whyte's takeover of Rangers is also now the subject of a criminal investigation, and Duff & Phelps senior partner David Grier was an advisor to Whyte before, during and after the deal was concluded.

The BBC's Daly claimed in his documentary Grier had been aware of the deal Craig Whyte struck with Ticketus to fund his purchase of the club from Sir David Murray using future season ticket sales.

Grier has denied the allegation, and has stated he only knew of Ticketus' relationship with Rangers in their previous involvement with the club under the ownership of Murray.

Industry body the Insolvency Practitioners Association (IPA) is also investigating Duff & Phelps in relation to conflict of interest allegations made in the BBC's documentary on Rangers.
