RANGERS are the SFL Third Division champions after Queenâ??s Park lost at home today to Elgin City producing an unassailable gap at the top.

The Light Blues suffered a stalemate at Montrose in the noon kick-off much to the frustration of all involved.

However, that point at Links Park has proved to be enough to take Rangers over the line.

Queenâ??s had to avoid defeat against Elgin to prolong things but they were defeated 1-0 by the Highlanders who scored courtesy of a Stuart Leslie penalty.

And so phase one of the journey has now been completed although Rangers still donâ??t know where the second stage will begin.

Ally McCoist and his squad learned of the success while travelling south back to Glasgow from the north-east.

It will undoubtedly be a huge relief to them all that the main objective has now been achieved.

It has been tough in the past month with consecutive goal-less draws and a shock home defeat by Annan Athletic.

But the hard work done in the middle phase of the season has paid off at last for Rangers and the SFL 3 trophy is theirs.

They wonâ??t get their hands on it, however, until the final home match of the season on May 4 when they face Berwick Rangers.
