  1. BROADFOOT still in talks but hopes his future lies at Ibrox

KIRK BROADFOOT has admitted today that he wants to stay at Ibrox and help the club win more trophies.

The defender's current contract expires in the summer but he has been offered an improved deal to stay with his boyhood club.

So far he has yet to put pen to paper but the 25-year-old has expressed a desire to remain a Rangers player ahead of tomorrow

He said: "We are still in talks.

"I would love to stay here but at the end of the day I have to look after my future. Hopefully we can reach an agreement.

"From my own point of view I want to stay at Rangers and hopefully we can win the league and get back in to Europe.

"There is not really a bigger club than this in my eyes but at the end of the day I still need to look after my own career.

"The offer I have right now I am thinking over."

Kirk has also urged John Fleck and Danny Wilson to reconsider their decisions to turn down new contracts at Rangers at such an early stage of their careers.

He added: "It's up to them what they do.

"There is no getting away from the fact that they are very good players with big futures in the game but I don't see any harm in them staying for a bit longer.

"To be honest if they stay here and are going to be playing every week for Rangers there is no bigger stage to play on.

"They have got so long left in their careers and I am sure they will go on to big, big things but for now I don't see why they should leave a club like this."

  2. WALTER adamant his own future has nothing to do with contract saga

WALTER SMITH is adamant uncertainty about his own future as Rangers manager should have no bearing on whether Danny Wilson and John Fleck stay at the club.

The teenage pair turned down new contract offers last week and the Ibrox boss believes they will now pursue moves to English football.

But Gers hope the situation can be resolved and that terms can be agreed with the two prospects to keep them in Glasgow instead.

Smith himself is working without a contract at present as he and his coaching staff wait for a new owner to come into the club.

But while that might affect the decisions some older players make with regards to whether they stay on, he doesn't feel that applies to Wilson and Fleck.

Smith said: "I can probably understand where they are coming from but when you're starting out in football, the only thing you should be concentrating on is playing.

"I don't think whoever the manager is matters that much when you are 17 or 18. What matters is that you're applying yourself to what you want to do.

"While a more experienced player might consider the manager's situation, I don't think that matters much to youngsters.

"Instead their focus should be on making a good start to their careers and laying the foundations for the future."

  3. WILSON and Fleck turn down new deals with Rangers

RANGERS could lose both Danny Wilson and John Fleck to English football after manager Walter Smith revealed the pair turned down new contracts.

The 18-year-olds, who both have 18 months left on their current deals, were offered lucrative new contracts but have been advised by their agents to turn those offers down and look to further their careers down south.

Wilson has only just burst into the top team set up making his debut at Dundee two months ago in the Co-operative Insurance Cup and has subsequently played in all competitions for Rangers.

He is once more deputising for Madjid Bougherra, who is on duty at the African Cup of Nations.

Fleck, who has been in the squad for over two years now, has had a stop-start season and most of his appearances have come from the bench. His last start was at Aberdeen on November 28.

Smith had hoped the two players would want to continue to learn their trade with Rangers.

He said: "It's disappointing that they've turned down new contracts but that's the world we live in at the moment.

"Could things change on that front? It certainly doesn't look like it. The disappointing aspect is that contractual aspects for 18-year-olds have been placed before careers.

"I've not had any conversations with the players' agents to find out their reasons for turning down the deals.

But it's quite straight forward. They've turned it down so they must see an opportunity elsewhere which would probably need to be down in England, I would imagine."

  4. CONDOLENCES to family of Ian Hosie

RANGERS were saddened to hear of the death of former Stadium Access Manager Ian Hosie,

Ian, who was 67, was a lifelong supporter and he was delighted when the opportunity came along for him to work at the Club that he loved after he had retired from Strathclyde Police, where he achieved the rank of Detective Chief Superintendent in the CID.

He was given the opportunity as Head of Ticketing to organise the Ticket Office in the early 1990s, a task he relished and enjoyed for several years before parting company with the club.

Ian never lost his allegiance and he could often be seen at home and away games which he continued to go to until his recent illness.

A service was held on Wednesday at the South Lanarkshire Crematorium and was well attended by family friends and past Rangers players and staff as well as colleagues from his time working in Strathclyde Police

The Management Players and Staff at the Club would like to take this opportunity to pass on their sincere condolences to Ian's wife Margaret and sons Craig and Darren as well as the rest of his family and close friends.

  5. POLICE to assess area around New Douglas Park on Friday

POLICE will decide tomorrow morning whether to allow Sunday's Scottish Cup tie between Hamilton Accies and Rangers to go ahead.

An inspection of the area surrounding New Douglas Park has been scheduled for 11am as the cold snap continues to grip the country.

The playing surface at the stadium is fine but conditions outside the perimeter walls are causing concern after heavy snow and frost over the last couple of weeks.

A number of other ties planned for this weekend have already been called off in the last 24 hours, including Celtic's trip to face Morton at Cappielow Park.

Games at Raith Rovers, Forfar Athletic, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ayr United have also been cancelled.

Despite the adverse conditions, Accies are doing everything they can to ensure the land adjacent to their ground is safe.

They remain confident the game will take place as planned at 12.15pm on Sunday but if it is put off, the match will be rescheduled for 7.45pm on Tuesday night.

As soon as a decision on whether the original fixture will take place or not is made, we'll bring you news of it right here on the official Rangers website.

  6. NOVO could face Accies on Sunday, Thommo also set to return

NACHO NOVO could be fit to return to the Rangers starting line up as soon as this Sunday when the Light Blues face Hamilton in the Scottish Cup.

The Spanish striker had to go off after just 13 minutes of the weekend draw at Celtic after a collision with home player Georgios Samaras. Novo suffered a thigh injury and after heavy internal bleeding, it was thought he'd be out for the next two or three weeks. But while he hasn't yet returned to training, the knock isn't as bad as was first feared and he could yet find himself included in the squad that goes to Accies five days from now.

That would come as a huge boost to manager Walter Smith, who is already without a number of other key players. Steven Naismith, DaMarcus Beasley and Pedro Mendes have all been injured lately while Madjid Bougherra is away preparing for the African Cup of Nations.

But there's further good news for Smith as Kevin Thomson has now resumed full training after a calf injury and he'll be available for the game at New Douglas Park too.

The Gers boss said: "Kevin is one who I'd hope will be fit for the weekend and Nacho has a chance.

"It looked like a bad knock in the thigh for him at the weekend but the physiotherapists have been working hard on it. As such, there may now be an opportunity for him to play after all this weekend after it seemed he might be out.

"As for the rest, we'll need to wait and see. DaMarcus and Pedro are both coming along well and we're hopeful of having a couple of players back."
