  1. Having seen most of his games for Under 20's (although he was an overage player) I was very surprised that he made the break through to the first team. He has proved me and a lot of others wrong, but to be where we want to be I think we need better.

I see parallels with Stephen McManus, having seen a lot of him at youth level I was shocked he broke in to Celtic's first team. Ultimately he turned into a competent defender, captaining Celtic and playing for Scotland.

I never thought David Bates would be at Rangers beyond his current contract, but I think he has done well enough to justify a new contract within reason.

Cole McKinnon is a new name to me, any info on the lad.

He is an under 15 player signed from Drumsaggard Boys Club in the summer, Rangers tried to sign him a couple of years ago but he opted to remain at Boys Club. Rangers beat of several clubs including our rivals across the city to sign him.

His older brother Andy was a Rangers a few years ago.

  3. Sometimes you have to look behind the bare result, the game in Lisbon against Benfica was pretty much a reserve Benfica 19's. This was totally different and the Bayern squad was pretty much their Champions Youth League squad. So a good performance and result from the young Rangers side.

A google translate version of the Bayern report on the game.

The U19 and U17 FC Bayern graduated on Saturday test games on campus. For the A-juniors it was against the Glasgow Rangers, the B-youth received the FC Memmingen. The game reports.

U19 is subject to the Rangers
A Test match defeat had to accept the U19 of Bayern on Saturday. A week before the start of the season at 1. FC Heidenheim the team of coach Sebastian Hoeneß defeated the offspring of the Glasgow Rangers. On the campus, the Scots beat FCB 1: 2 (1: 1). "It was a very good test against a strong opponent after intensive preparation in recent weeks. Now it's time to get the necessary freshness for the kick-off next week, "Hoeness said after the match.

The Bayern coach let his team act in a 4-1-4-1 system. In a fast-paced game, the Munich caught the better start. Ten minutes were played when Top goalscorer Manuel Wintzheimer could bring the home side 1-0 in the lead. However, ten minutes before the break, Rangers equalized in the person of Liam Burt.

In the second game, the game remained intense. There were opportunities on both sides now and then. The best chance for the FCB had Oliver Batista Meier, who forced with a free-kick from 20 meters Rangers goalkeeper Jaden Mc Adams to a brilliant act (60.). Glasgow was awarded a penalty in the 67th minute. Stephen Kelly converted to 1: 2 from Bayern view. As a result, the Munich tried to equalize, but the 2: 2 did not want to succeed.

Lineup FCB-U19: Hoffmann - Rausch (46th Savior), May, Nitzl (46th Lungwitz), Meier (62nd Nitzl) - Zaiser (46th Pudic) - Jeong (46th Kollmann), Shabani, Pudic (30th) Jelisic), Batista Meier (62nd D 'Almeida) - Wintzheimer (46th Zylla)

    Goals: 1: 0 Wintzheimer (10th), 1: 1 Burt (35th), 1: 2 Kelly (57./Foulelfmeter)

  4. Finished 2-2, Man U scoring with last kick

Rangers Line Up:- Alnwick; Dallas, Bates, Alves, Beerman; Palmer, Pena, Kranjcar; Nemane, Herrera, Dalcio.

Mayo replaced Alves and Bradley replaced Dallas at HT

    Gray came on for Beerman

Very late subs were Kelly for Dalcio and Lyon for Palmer.

James Wilson put Man Utd ahead, Eduardo Herrera equalised before HT. Aaron Nemane put Rangers in front with former Hutchie Vale player Ethan Hamilton equalising with the last kick.

  5. He has played for Scotland at youth level though, so you would assume he knows he's in the reckoning. Again though, I don't know enough about this lad or this instance to cast judgement.

Scotland haven't shown any interest recently. Danny Finlayson was in Scotland squads in the past and not 100% sure but possibly Cammy Palmer too.

Some players may have chose to wait, but we are talking about choosing countries with better recent records on the international stage. Obviously Matthew and Danny chose not to hang around waiting on Scotland.

Maybe they think the Scottish youth setup is inferior.

  6. If your mum and dad are Scottish, you should play for Scotland. That's my view.

I have no idea what Shiels' story is, so can't really comment on him specifically. Although anyone choosing to play for Rep of Ireland over Scotland is always disappointing.

He hasn't chosen Republic of Ireland over Scotland, just the same as Euan Deveney, Danny Finlayson and Cammy Palmer didn't choose Northern Ireland over Scotland. Scotland didn't pick these players while the Republic and Northern Ireland did.
