I assure you I'm not.
I dislike those two.
It's a point of pride. I don't think they're as good as they've been suggesting.
I'm not getting off from my particularly high horse.
Ressentiment.
Though you may be right about their assessment, still.

I turned it over to watch Lineker and Shearer!
I'm a bad, bad man.
You are one of them. Disappointing. Poor form.

Maybe bringing players on to take penalties is not tye right move?
Rushford and Sancho missed poorly.
So much more senior players to take that last penalty.

I'm sorry, but England were not good.
They started well, but I really think it's because Italy started really poorly.
Over the course, Italy were better.
Alas, correct. Italy deserved it.

Terrific England support? One cry was no surrender and they'd be over the line.

Also persisting with punt up the pitch which is just giving Italy the ball back - opportunity here tho - what a waste of a free Kick
Kane three yards from the centre half just jogging behind him. Imagine Gerrard tolerating that.

England now looking the more likely winner???
More like penalties.

Is there any reason why the front players aren't hassling the defenders as they play out? They're not doing anything else.

What happened to England's press? The centre of midfield - utterly static. They will pass round them, sure, but standing off what was making it so easy.

All Italy so far in 2nd half - England dropped way to deep
Yup. They need to calm down and play four or five passes. Though this Italy side press.

At this stage it's a point of pride: I don't rate their style of play, I don't think it's that good. They don't create anything. It's basically defend well, and rely on someone to create a bit of magic most of the time - or rely on a mistake.
Tactically they got it spot on - as much as Italy didn't, though.
I’ve been working through the tournament, first game I’ve saw, alas. I’d still want them to win regardless of play style. What I’m seeing tonight I like. Effective press. They just don’t have attacking flair - they could have, if they could have someone who could look up a see the spaces the attacking full backs are in particularly tripier and be able to ping an Italy style pass.

I must be blind.
I've seen England create nothing, with Italy creating several, albeit half, chances.
England have been like this all tournament. Create bugger all, yet nick goals and defend well.
At some point I'll need to concede that they're a better side than I think.
Calling Italy’s chances half is charitable. You can tell by their own frustration they’re not getting behind. They’re passing better, beautiful one touch - sideways. Could all change. They have the talent - they have shown that - to cut England open but England have been positionally excellent.

This is a typical England performance: they actually create bugger all, yet nick a goal through bad defending.
They started well, but I think that was down to a poor Italy.
Tell me a fellow Classicist - that put one over my head - is not one of those anti England ones. England have pressed immensely well, they’ve created the only real chance and made it count. By far the better side so far. The number of times Tripier has been open if they had a Goldson. If only he was English.

The second best English crosser with a ball to the other full back. Reminiscent. England have performed well. Italy have created nothing.

You may need to revise your history of the union flag (the term' Union 'Jack' is technically incorrect); their country's flag is included in it - as is Scotland's.
It actually isn’t - it’s a common misconception. Britain is still their country.

I moved to England shortly before the 1966 win. And they were claiming it as a victory for British football when it was a victory for English football. What annoyed us more than anything was to see so many Union flags at Wembley - a flag England are not entitled to. Thankfully, now they have learned after 55 years what their national flag was. We wouldn't be the same though - we would be a damn sight worse!
These are our neighbours friends and families, and fellow countrymen. I’d rather take their hubris over our never-ending wee man syndrome. They can fly union jacks if they want too - it’s not their national flag, but it is that of their country’s.

Nationalism, Scotland’s shame
I feel like it’s *, Scotland’s shame at the moment. Was out on the boat yesterday and on the way back home we stopped for some water, sat nav led us through a wee estate - window with a Scotland and England flag up. Small mercies and all that.

Shows two things: a) despite all our experience in the Union, we can’t do separation of powers properly and informally, the most fundamental aspect of democracy, b) point a) is useless because it’s not an accident, it’s consistent with the inherent working out of nationalist government. Suddenly the executive branch, the legal system and the police are one thing, beyond just the application of laws. We have such a rich legal tradition too. Had.
