Well that's that signing confirmed. I wonder why a trial (in which they know he can't play in either of the friendlies) is necessary? Also, how long do work permit applications take? Surely not a good idea to delay signings waiting on the outcome of the application?

Because we've only ever seen him play at the World Cup and he was rotten. I'd be utterly astounded if we had scouts sent to Honduras.

Honduras international Georgie Welcome insists he will be doing his utmost to impress manager Walter Smith during his trial at Rangers.

The 25-year-old striker has travelled to Scotland to spend a week with the SPL champions in a bid to win a permanent move to the Light Blues.

Unfortunately for Smith he is unable to see the hit-man in a match scenario due to work permit issues, so he is keeping a close eye on the Motagua player's ability in training.

Welcome has been doing his research on Scottish football and feels the physical element of the game is something he is already accustomed to.

Should Gers push through a deal he could cost around £500,000, making him the club's first permanent signing since Maurice Edu's move nearly two years ago.

"I'm very happy and excited about this opportunity," he told the Daily Record. "My team-mates have been very supportive. My goal is to win a deal.

"The president of Motagua told me to make the most of the opportunity and he wants me to succeed abroad.

"I don't know a great deal about the club because I only knew for certain I was going in the past few days. But I will do my research about them. I am told it is a physical league in Scotland - but that doesn't bother me. I am used to people kicking me.

"I'm more than ready to meet this challenge. I will do everything possible to make this work. I have waited a long time for this chance and I intend to take it."
