Team co-efficient (European football)

Recommended Posts

Was just having a look on Bert Kassie's website. Our co-efficient points gained for the 05/06 season are due to come off of our ranking. We collected just over 12 points that season and would want to achieve around the same this season to hopefully maintain our ranking and ensure we are seeded for future tournaments and should we qualify continue to enjoy at least 3rd seed status in the CL.

Thanks to bonus points and the draw with Man U we already have just over 5 co-efficient points. For this season we were the 31st ranked club in Europe. For 2011 we would currently also be ranked 31st but of course there are many points to play for.

We all also know how important the countries co-efficient is for qualification of our clubs to European competition and will hope to accrue more poitns from that point of view.

The main thing for us is that though we are ranked 31st there are teams above who haven't qualified for any european competitions this year , we should be lookng a averaging 6-7 points per year to keep us in a good seeding position .

We will ( if we manage to win the league) be seeded for all of next years qualifications draws , the biggset games this season wil be against the Turks ,no shit sherlock, .

It also looks as if 13th is just out of our reach but 14th is a definite possibility ,

12 Denmark 6.125 5.125 8.200 4.400 3.900 27.750 2/ 5

13 Romania 11.333 2.600 2.642 6.083 2.166 24.824 2/ 6

14 Belgium 4.700 4.500 4.500 8.700 2.200 24.600 3/ 5

15 Scotland 6.750 10.250 1.875 2.666 2.200 23.741 1/ 5

Romania are having a bit of a nightmare , key to this will be us either qualifying in 2nd place or at very worst getting into the latter stages of the Europa league.

The big disadvantage of posting high coefficients is you need to stay consistent , and losing every team from a national perspective has been a nightmare yet again

Can tie yourself in knots trying to analyse all this.

There is also the difference between Rangers co-efficient and Scotland's co-efficient (not to be confused with the FIFA ranking it has feck all to do with the national team).

A temporary slip in the rankings and less teams in Europe might be a blessing in disguise for future season's though. Potentially? This year we are the only team really who will collect any points yet it will be divided by 5 for the national co-efficient due to 5 qualifiers. Having less teams in at the start who will get no points (or maybe the odd 1) means any points collected will be divided by a smaller number and hopefully make a greater contribution to the league's future co-efficient.

Might be a bit if a vicious circle of ups and downs for the SPL though with the ranking hovering around 13 or so.

It's the great success question , the higher we get coefficient wise the more teams we get and therefore the points get diluted , and when those teams earn hee haw it only makes the situation worse , moving aleague start to an earlier date may help but I am not entirely convinced
