the silence from Westminster CSC?

Recommended Posts

The likes of Herald Diarist(Sellik View columnist too), Tom Shields and Radio Snyde's former Chief Executive, Paul Cooney never stopped boasting of the influence wielded at the Palace of Westminster by their green'n'grey hooped heroes. A fully attributed Sellik supporters club was set up in the mid-nineties, all those Yahoos that sat on the various coloured benches in both the House of Lords and the House of Commons formed the Westminster CSC. In excess of 60 members, Dame Helena Kennady QC, Lord Reid of Cardowan, Jim Murphy, Frank Roy, Jim McGovern, ......etc have all been members from day one. Others have come and gone, the former Speaker, Michael Martin, George Galloway, Jim Devine, Des Browne, Brian Wilson ...... etc; either because they stood down as MPs or they were voted out.

During Martin O'Neill's tenure at ra Stydome, it became almost a weekly experience that an Early Day Motion would be laid down congratulating ra Sellik for winning a CL match, making a donation to charity, participating in a testimonial in England, and constant lionisation of the GFITW. Almost, without exception, they were all long term Labour Party apparatchiks and did not need whipping into line to add their numerous signatures. Of course, messages of solidarity were important too, a high profile labour dispute would see a message of support winging it's way to the workers from the Westminster CSC.

Interestingly, here in Scotland we have a labour dispute threatening to activate this coming weekend. It's not about the price of labour; no, it's all about the conditions of labour. Namely, referees have decided to withdraw their labour because of constant threats to themselves and families from TGFITW. These are not idle threats, Hugh Dallas had his family home attacked, Kevin Dunn smashed thirteen of fourteen windows with a golf club. He was charged, convicted, and fined by Hamilton Sherrif Court but did not have his Sellik season ticket taken from him. Mike McCurry has his windows smashed twice, Wullie Column received threatening phone calls, Steven Craven's children were threatened in school, Kenny Clark accompanying his eight year old son on the Arran ferry was confronted and threatened, ....... etc.

Now, Westminster CSC did NOT lay down any early day motions condemning these long running threats and actions, nor have they issued a letter of solidarity to those on the end of constant inTIMidation. Will they support the striking referees, will they condemn the threat of strike-breaking from foreign nations, will they adhere to their principles?

I suppose it's all about integrity. I am sure both Tom Shields and Paul Cooney will keep us updated?
