Ibrox manager Walter Smith knows he will be under pressure to offload his current No 1 to either Aston Villa or Arsenal for around �£5million when the transfer window opens next month and is looking to sign the 23-year-old Navas. Gers have already put Neil Alexander on a long-term contract as they cover their backs for the loss of McGregor. Navas, who plies his trade with Spanish Second Division side Albacete Balompie, has also been watched by Barcelona, Real Madrid, Osasuna and Valencia. The youngster has been earning rave reviews this season. He only signed from Costa Rican side Saprissa in the summer but had already made a name for himself following his international call-up when he was still a teenager and good performances for his club at the FIFA Club World Championship in 2005. He was also named best goalkeeper at the 2009 Concacaf Gold Cup. The Scottish champions are understood to have had Navas watched twice recently and reports back to Ibrox have been positive.
