The Takeover by Craig Whyte - the Right Thing for Rangers?

I'll be blunt and I don't like saying this, but I think there are more reasons to distrust him at this point in time than there are to trust him.

He's said himself that he ultimately saw buying the club as a business opportunity and I can't for the life of me see how the club can be a business opportunity to him as well as being good for the club.

I find this confusing. If he saw the club as a business opportunity, then you have to question his business acumen. There is little to no profit in Scottish football, and someone who takes over any club here has to accept, like in most countries, that they'll be lucky to break even regarding turnover.

So if that's why he took us over, to make money, then ignoring the mercenary nature of that claim, it seems a financially odd thing to do.

There are other businesses far more suited to profit and growth than football.

If he gets us running within our own means and debt free. He sells us for a lot more than he paid for us of course he has the big gamble of the tax case but if he wins it's all good.

He makes a profit we have a club running the way it should.

The problem is your post makes a lot of assumptions. It basically depends on 'if' a lot. And it's dangerous to make assertions based on nothing more than hope and conjecture. That's not a dig at you, a lot of fans will agree with your post and I'm not exactly far off myself, but it's folly to assume these 'ifs' will actually come to fruition.

That's where the major issue is with him in my own mind. It's not coincidental (IMO) that Murray wanted to sell, nobody wanted (or was willing/able) to buy and then along comes Mr. Whyte all of a sudden. Oh wait, it wasn't just all of a sudden was it... because one of the directors in Mr. Whyte's Rangers shareholding company (or "group" as it's being termed) is a Mr. Ellis. Still, it's not coincidental in my mind that a buyer arrived on the scene and purchased the club just before we're about to enter into a (potential) £50m tax case.

I think most of us are unsure about what the hell is going on to be honest. A lot of fans want to brush the ownership and financial aspects of the club aside and you can understand that because we ALL just want to be talking about the football.

What I don't want to see, is the club going into administration! That is the bottom line for me. At some point it may turn out to be the only option available to our completely new board of directors, but it will be a very very sad day for the club if it happens! Some will say it's the only option and try to paint a rosy picture of it, but administration would be a major blow to the club and a terrible moment in the club's history.

I know Danny a lot of ifs but it's the only reason I can see that makes sense. I don't think for a minute he would have bought us if we weren't in a mess and he had to pay a lot of money. He's said himself he's a turn around expert it what he does. The problem arises when he can't get us sorted and can't see a way of recouping his money.

What does he do then? That's what scares the hell out of me.

Of course you can get the very far fetched theory that he's just a huge Rangers man is doing this for the benefit of Rangers and all us fans.

I'm a Rangers fan and I'm sick of all these businessmen coming into footbal, mainly due percieved riches via TV money.

I'm no financial e]wizard, but as seemingly the only socialist left in the world I say that business doesn't work in football. It works for business, but even all the so called clubs down south are up to their eyes in debt and are now fully dependant on TV and run themselves accordingly.

It's all a lot of nonsense and has very little to do with football.
