Hegarty Agrees New Deal

CHRIS HEGARTY has become the latest player to commit himself to Rangers after the Northern Ireland under-21 captain signed a new deal with the club.

The central defender's contract was set to expire this summer but the 19-year-old has agreed a 12 month extension to his deal.

Hegarty made his first team debut against Linfield in a friendly earlier this year but has yet to make a competitive outing for the top team.

He was a regular on the bench for SPL matches towards the end of last season and is now hoping to take the chance to establish himself in Ally McCoist's plans.

The young defender, who turns 20 in August, follows Ross Perry, Kyle Hutton, Lee Wallace and Lee McCulloch in committing his future to the Light Blues.

While those players had existing contracts with the club, Hegarty becomes the first of a group of players who were out of contract to re-sign with Rangers.

You can see full reaction from Hegarty on RangersTV tonight.
