HM Government e-petition

Recommended Posts

e-petitions are an easy, personal way for you to influence government and Parliament in the UK. You can create an e-petition about anything that the government is responsible for and if it gets at least 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in the House of Commons. You can find more information about how the House of Commons deals with e-petitions on the Backbench Business Committee website This link opens in a new window.

one example- Call for the Prime Minister to intervene in the HMRC v Rangers Football Club tax issue

Responsible department: Her Majesty's Treasury

Rangers Football Club are one of the biggest sporting insitutions in Britain in terms of support, stadium, history and trophies won.

There is a need for a swift resolution to the tax case with HMRC, the way the club was run in the last 14 years by Sir David Murray as well as the last 9 months by Craig Whyte and any administration or liquidiation so that the club can prosper once more.

There is a precedent with the prime minister lending his support to Portsmouth FC. Will he do the same for fans of Rangers FC

This is definitely an avenue worth considering. I would suggest doing it through a committee. It would need to be carefully worded or it won't qualify. The other factor is to check that somenoe hasn't done this already because they won't accept a similar one. We should ask for an enquiry. Whatever happened to the parliamentary enquiry into Scottish football? Haven't heard any more about that.

I don't think any of us have done it yet, but pressure must be brought to bear on the renvenue dept and with any luck, what's behind the SFA/SPL's complete and utter rotten, rubbish way they've handled this/us case.
