ALLY McCOIST is hopeful that David Templeton will make a return to the Rangers squad ahead of schedule.

Sundayâ??s clash with Clyde will come too soon for the deadline-day signing who has been absent since injuring his ankle against Annan in mid-September.

However the winger was back out on the training pitch at Auchenhowie today and, along with Kane Hemmings, is nearing a return.

McCoist will assess the playerâ??s progress next week before deciding if he is ready for a dramatic recall against Inverness in the League Cup on Wednesday.

The boss said: â??The good news is that the wee man looking healthy again and heâ??s out on the training ground and Iâ??d hope in the not too distant future heâ??ll be back playing for us.

â??This weekend has come a little too early for him. Wednesday is a big game and it would be a big call but weâ??ll see how he is on Monday and I wouldnâ??t rule anything out.

â??The most important thing is that when he comes back heâ??s 100 per cent fit and ready to go again.â?

McCoist is getting closer to a fully fit squad, with Andy Little now available for selection and Fran Sandaza the only slightly longer term absentee.

He added: â??Thankfully weâ??re looking ok. Andy Little is back and played 35 minutes for us last week and made a difference when he came on.

â??Heâ??s had another good weekâ??s training and heâ??ll come back in. Kane Hemmings, another young lad, has been doing a little bit of training as well so weâ??re getting closer.
