East Kilbride FC are in talks to bring former Rangers star Nacho Novo to K-Park.

In what would be a sensational piece of business by the Lowland League side, Kilby boss Martin Lauchlan is aiming to make the diminutive Spaniard the biggest signing in the club's short history.

The News understands initial talks have taken place between the 37-year-old striker and club bosses, with more talks planned for tomorrow when it is believed Novo will meet with Lauchlan ft the first time.

Novo, who spent six years at Ibrox between 2006-10 and won three league titles, has just returned from a spell in America with Carolina Railhawks.

He famously scored the winning penalty against Fiorentina to fire Rangers into the 2008 UEFA Cup Final and has played for a number of Scottish clubs in the past having had spells at Dundee, Raith Rovers and, most recently, Greenock Morton in 2013.

Lauchlan has previous for signing a high-profile former Old Firm star. In February both he and assistant Carlo Girasoli struck a deal to bring ex-Celtic ace Bobby Petta to Junior side Rossvale.

Earlier this month the Kilby gaffer spoke of his desire to land a marquee signing as they aim to win the league and gain promotion to the senior ranks.

Tiny Kilby, who played Celtic in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup earlier this year, have a home capacity of around 600 and signing a player of Novo's stature would certainly put bums on seats at K-Park next season.

A source close to the club said: "There is definite interest and East Kilbride FC are working hard to bring Nacho to K-Park.

"It's a deal that could very well happen.

"This would be the biggest signing in Lowland League history if they can pull it off."
