A SEX beast who molested a schoolboy at a Hibs supporters’ club during an Edinburgh derby screening was caged for six years today.

 

Vile William Burns, 58, admitted to sexually assaulting the 12-year-old, who suffers from learning difficulties, after following him into the toilets in Edinburgh’s Sunnyside.

A court heard how the convicted sex offender approached the child before asking to carry out a sex act on him.

 

The victim told him “no” but Burns ignored him before the boy tried to push him off.

 

He also grabbed the boy’s hand and made him touch him.

 

The child later revealed to his mother that he had been approached by a man in the toilet and had said no but he “did it anyway”.

 

Burns later told police after the incident during February of this year: “I heard a kid got tampered with in the toilets, but I’m not guilty.”

 

The attack took place while a Hibs Scottish Cup tie against city rivals Hearts at Tynecastle was being shown on TV.

 

Forensic scientists later found a DNA match with Burns after taking swabs from the boy’s boxer shorts.

 

The court heard that Burns was previously jailed for indecency offences against girls.

 

He admitted sexually assaulting the 12-year-old boy at the Hibernian Football Supporters Club when he appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh.

 

A judge told him: “You have pled guilty to an appalling offence.

“For your own sexual gratification you have preyed upon a young child and have subjected him to a horrendous ordeal.”

 

Michael O’Grady QC said “the almost public circumstances” of the attack suggested that Burns had little control over his urges.

 

He said: “It is apparent, so far as children are concerned, you are a predatory and dangerous individual.”

 

The judge said it was clear that Burns represented “a continuing and long term risk to the public and to children in particular.”

 

He ordered that the sex offender should be kept under supervision for a further period of four years.

I don't like using child abuse to point score but if this was at a Rangers supporters club it would have been in every newspaper front page at least in Scotland.
