Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist says David Weir still has a slim chance of playing in their Uefa Cup semi-final second leg against Fiorentina.

 

The Glasgow club had confirmed the defender's absence on Tuesday with a groin injury, but he flew to Florence with the squad on Wednesday morning.

 

Yet, despite making progress, McCoist concedes Weir is still 'extremely doubtful' to make Thursday's match.

 

Allan McGregor, Lee McCulloch and Charlie Adam are definitely out.

 

Steven Naismith, Chris Burke and DaMarcus Beasley are also on the long Ibrox injury list.

 

But Barry Ferguson and Kevin Thomson return from European suspensions.

 

Weir limped off injured during Sunday's Old Firm defeat and, although scans showed no muscle tear, the club ruled him out of Thursday's crucial match.

 

However, McCoist revealed that the management team still had not given up on the Scotland international.

 

"It would be a fantastic boost if Davie was fit, but that remains to be seen," he said.

 

"He's still feeling his groin so he is extremely doubtful and there's no magic wand."
