  1. No, a few clubs now take advantage of the Leonardo da Vinci Fund, which is a European Commission fund. It is basically a winter training camp. http://ec.europa.eu/education/lifelong-learning-programme/doc82_en.htm Rangers gave used it a few times and were in Turkey last year. Celtic are also in Turkey at the moment and I am sure some other clubs are in other warmer climes. Cyprus, Spain, Portugal and Malta have hosted some clubs in the past. In fact I remember when Rangers played Anothorsis in Cyprus the Motherwell youth team were at the game.

  4. Simple it would cost us possibly a six figure fee. Best player in our 19's by a mile, nothing decided yet and he could sign a new contract, even though its significantly less that they are willing to offer.

  7. The coaches at Rangers and Scotland would be best placed to answer that, but you don't go from a mainstay in the victory shield squad to not being selected without a reason, and it certainly isn't down to ability. Sometimes he wants to play on his own and when he gets the ball he keeps it till he loses it. He seems to have learned that you don't have to do a trick every time you get the ball, hopefully he will kick on from here and use the talent he has.
  8. It really is up to Kal, he has loads of talent, but can also be frustrating at times. Today was Kal at his best, sometimes he can overplay and not make the pass, when he first appeared he wanted to do a trick everytime he got the ball and still has a tendency to do that at times. Was a regular in Scotland teams when he was younger, but hasn't been involved for a while. I am sure that has little to do with his actual ability and more to do with his attitude at times. He has real talent and I hope he can make full use of it. Report on game posted now http://rfcyouths.wordpress.com/2010/11/16/old-firm-victory-sends-youths-top/

  20. Having watched our youth teams for many years I for one wouldn't say Walter is reluctant to give youth a chance, if they are good enough they will get that chance. Most people that call for youth players to be included usually haven't actually seen them, or have seen them only briefly. Nobody would like to see some of them progress in to the first team more than me, but only if they are good enough. They seems to be a perception that our youths are better than what they really are, where as results are not the most important aspect, we have finished third in the youth league the last two seasons. Of the Hibs side that won the league two years ago only Hanlon and Wotherspoon have made the breakthrough, from Celtic last season, Forrest has only made a breakthrough this season. In the same period Fleck and Wilson were integrated into a league winning side. One or two others have had a taste, Ness has had his injury problems and this season Hutton is ahead of schedule having impressed pre-season. I hope to be proved wrong, but if you have read my reports this season's youths don't appear to be the same quality as the past few seasons. That's not to say there isn't 1 or 2 prospects, but the reality is we have to win every game at first team level, and at the moment none of the younger players would improve the team.
  21. He was one of four French youngsters who where on trial at start of the season. Two of them came back and played a couple more games, Gafaiti was the most impressive and looks like he has got a contract, midfield player looked decent with out being a standout. Skillful but also looked pretty strong, he is only 16 though, so early days.
